Reading vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

The Saturday tea-time game features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Reading come into the game on the back of a midweek defeat to Millwall that saw lose 2-1 at the Den. The Royals took a 73rd minute through Dave Edwards but were undone by two strikes from the Lions in the last ten minutes. Norwich continued their strong form with a 1-0 victory over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. They took the lead through James Maddison in the 13th minute and then held off the home side to keep a fifth straight league clean-sheet. The Berkshire side won 3-1 when these two met at the Madejski Stadium last season though then lost 7-1 at Carrow Road. Yann Kermorgant netted in both fixtures but is unlikely to be fit enough to play here.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair and that probably seems fair. The away win would be my most likely selection if forced to choose but I think that I will look elsewhere for my bets. I am amazed to see under 2.5 goals as the outsider of the two here given how Norwich have played recent games, their last five fixtures have produced a total of just three goals at both ends of the table. This is shown in Reading matches with seven of their nine going under also. It is two straight 1-0 away victories for the Canaries and that also looks a worth small stakes interest as if they can keep Sheff U and Middlesbrough quite then the East-Anglian side will fancy their chances here.

Reading Preview

It is now no victory in four league games for the Royals and just one in the last six which came against an out of sorts Birmingham. They currently sit in the bottom eight of the division and this represents the first of four in a row against sides in the top-half. At home, results have been mixed with one victory, two draws and one defeat from their four so far. Each of the last four league visitors to the Madejski has netted just one goal each. In none of their nine matches have Reading been ahead at the interval and have not netted a single first-half goal. 75% of their goals have come in the final 30 minutes and 25% in the final 15.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriot (hamstring), Mo Barrow (knee), Tennai Watson (knock) and Yann Kermorgant (hip) are all carrying injuries.

Norwich City Preview

It is now no defeat in five league games for the Canaries who have taken 11 points out of a possible 15 and move into the top-half. Just two of their next eight fixtures (Ipswich and Wolves) come against teams in the top 12 of the division. On the road, they have taken just one point from their first three but have since bounced back and recorded impressive wins at Sheffield United and Middlesbrough.  Both these victories came by the same 1-0 scoreline. The East-Anglian team have not conceded in their last five while scoring three times themselves.  66% of the goals Norwich have scored have come in the second-half with 44% coming in the final 15 minutes.

Norwich City Team News

Matt Jarvis, Alex Pritchard (both ankle), Steven Naismith (groin), Jamal Lewis (knee) and Louis Thompson (Achilles) are all out.
