Reading vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two side in the bottom-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading were last in action on Tuesday night when they were held at home to a 1-1 draw by Bolton. Mo Barrow had given them a 32nd minute lead but they were pegged back in the 45th minute and that was how the game ended. Leeds were in action on Wednesday night as they entertained league leaders Wolves who comfortably beat them 3-0. It was the second successive game that United had gone down 3-0. The reverse fixture came in mid-October at Elland Road and it was the Royals who won that one 1-0 with a Mo Barrow goal. It is now back-to-back victories for Jaap Stam and his side against the Yorkshire outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to feel comfortable siding with either side as Reading are without a victory in six and Leeds have won just one of their last 13. If forced the draw would offer most appeal of the three options though I think better value can be found elsewhere. The hosts are slow starters and the away side fast starters so take the Whites to score first and then have a small play on Leeds to be ahead at half-time and the game to end in a draw at full-time.

Reading Preview

The Royals are struggling of late with no victory in their last six though three of their last four have finished all-square. This match marks the start of a tricky run that sees each of their next seven against teams above them. At the Madejski Stadium, they are now without a win in eight with five of these ending in a defeat. Only Burton (36) and Sunderland (31) have conceded more home goals than the 27 the Berkshire outfit have shipped. If the Championship table was decided on results after 45 minutes then Reading would be bottom of the league. Each of their last five fixtures and six of their last seven have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Reading Team News

Axel Andresson, Garath McCleary (both ankle), Yann Kermorgant, Tommy Elphick (both calf), Callum Harriott and Paul McShane (both hamstring), Joe Mendez and Stephen Quinn (both knee) are doubts. Jordan Obita is out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem.

Leeds United Preview

The Whites continued their recent struggles winning just one of their last 13 and sliding down the table into 13th. They must take advantage of a nice run of games that sees four of their next five against bottom eight sides. Away from Elland Road, it is six without a victory in the league though they did pick up recent points at Derby and Hull. Pierre-Michel Lasogga has netted in two of his last three on the road. Six of the last seven Leeds have played in the Championship have gone over 2.5 goals with three of them going over 3.5. The Yorkshire side would be as high as fifth if the table was decided on results after 45 minutes.

Leeds United Team News

Liam Cooper (unknown), Andy Lonergan (neck), Kemar Roofe (knock) and Tyler Roberts (shin) are doubts while Conor Shaughnessy and Luke Ayling (both ankle) are long-term absentees.
