Reading vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides who have made disappointing starts to the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Reading were in League Cup action in midweek as they went down 2-0 to Premier League Swansea. In the league, they earned a point at Brentford at the weekend thanks to a second-half Liam Kelly penalty. Hull were not in League Cup action as they were eliminated by Doncaster in the previous round. In the Championship, they also drew last time out netting eight minutes from time through David Meyler to earn a home draw with Sunderland. The Tigers have won their last four against the Royals and are unbeaten in six. Abel Hernandez has netted in their last two meetings but he has been ruled out of action until the new-year.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think at the prices on offer a small interest in a Reading victory looks the way to play this game. They have won 15 of their last 20 league home games so to be able available at better than even money is value especially against a side who have lost three straight on the road including defeats at QPR and Derby. Reading have yet to fire a first-half league goal while the average time of the first Hull goal is the 50th minute in away matches. The advice then is to take the time of the first league goal to come after the suggested time which is 30:00.

Reading Preview

It has been something of a play-off hangover for the Royals who sit in 18th place with just eight points though they have played only seven games while most of their divisional rivals have played eight. They have taken just one point from their last two fixtures and four from their last four. At home, it has been a mixed bag with one victory, one draw and one defeat. Both teams have scored in two of these three and the one that did not saw Reading failing to find the back of the net. Liam Kelly is the only Reading player to have scored more than one league goal this season while he has also netted twice in the League Cup. None of their goals have come in the first-half while 50% of them have come between the 60th and 75th minute.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring), Mo Barrow (knee) and Tennai Watson (knock) are out while Yann Kermorgant (hip) is still a few weeks away from a return.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have not found life easy since coming down from the Premier League and sit in 17th place with eight points from eight fixtures. They have taken just one point from their last three league games. On the road, they took a point at Villa Park on the opening day but since then have lost three straight games shipping nine times in the process and netting just two goals. Just three of the 14 goals they have scored this season have come on the road. Jarrod Bowen has netted five goals this campaign with three in the last four on their travels. The average time of their first goal scored is the 39th minute though this rises to the 50th when looking at away ties.

Hull City Team News

Goebel Evandro (hamstring) and Ondrej Mazuch (knee) are doubts while Moses Odubajo (broken knee cap), Abel Hernandez (Achilles), Kevin Stewart (ankle), Ryan Mason (skull fracture) and Will Keane (cruciate) are all ruled out.
