Reading vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom six of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Reading will be looking to bounce back from a midweek defeat as a Jon Dadhi Bodvarsson goal was not enough to prevent a 2-1 home loss to Norwich. The result was probably harsh on the Royals who marginally shaded the game on the expected goals data. Hull will be looking to bounce back after a 2-1 defeat away to Wigan despite a goal from Jarrod Bowen. The Tigers can have few complaints about the result in a match they were second best in. The two meetings between these sides ended all-square with a 0-0 draw in Humberside and a 1-1 draw in Berskshire. It means that City are now without a defeat in their last eight meetings with the Royals.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to split these teams and bookmakers agree which makes finding the possible result difficult with all three options a very real possibility.  As such, I would look away from the full-time result market to find the bet.

Four of the last five for Reading and three of the last five for Hull have gone over 2.5 goals and as the outsider of the two options in the bet this looks worth a small interest.  Three of the nine the Royals have scored have come in the first-half while this is six of nine for the Tigers so backing them to grab the opener makes sense.

Reading Preview

The Royals have had a tough start to the season with just one victory, two draws and five defeats from their opening eight. They sit in 22nd place while the expected goals data has them a little higher in 14th. At the Madejski Stadium, they have lost each of their four played this season and have won just two of 17. They have scored the joint lowest number of home goals (three) and conceded the joint highest number of home goals (seven) in the division. Each of the last three and four of the last five Reading league fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals. Each of their last five and six of eight for the season have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Reading Team News

Jordan Obita (cruciate) is still a few weeks away from a return to action while Adrian Popa (ankle), Dave Edwards (knee), David Meyler, Vito Mannone (both unknown) and Callum Harriott (unknown) are doubts.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers have struggled this season with two victories, one draw and five defeats from their first eight. They are 19th in the table which is exactly where the expected goals data believes they should be. Away from the KC Stadium, they have lost just two, drawn one and won one with those defeats coming in their last two. In just one of their last eight on the road have City failed to net. Hull have been involved in 2.75 goals per fixture and have an even split of four games going over 2.5 goals and four going under. Five of their eight this season have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Hull City Team News

Ondrej Mazuch, Daniel Batty (both knee), and James Weir (meniscus) are all doubts.
