Reading vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) is a repeat of one of the Championship play-off semi-finals. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. It was a disappointing start to the season for Reading who went down 2-0 at Loftus Road to QPR. Their misery was completed when they had Tiago Ilori dismissed though he will miss just one-game which was served in midweek. Fulham gained a point on their opening day as they conceded a late equalizer at Craven Cottage against Norwich. It was an open game that saw both sides created a number of chances but they needed a Russ Martin own-goal to give them the lead. These two sides know each other well having met four times with Reading coming out on top winning two of these, Fulham won one and one ended all-square. The two games at the Madejski ended in 1-0 victories for Reading.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Some people will tell you that Fulham are a great price but I would be cautious on that considering Reading did a number on them in the play-offs last season. The Whites might win the game but the price does not look worth getting involved with. I would though recommend a little interest in a goalscorer bet on Pelle Clement who was given licence to get forward from midfield last week for Reading and goes off at a generous double-figure quote. Given that the Royals have kept a clean-sheet in five of the last six halves they have played against Fulham it looks worth a small interest that they can keep quite the London outfit in the first 45 minutes here.

Reading Preview

At home, only Brighton won more games than Reading in the Championship who made the Madejski a fortress. One of the key aspects of this was a tight defence that shipped just 16 goals across their 23 games. It was a flat opening day for Reading who gave up more shots on target and more possession against a QPR side expected to struggle this season. An interesting feature of their last game was that John Swift and Pelle Clement were charged with getting forward to support forward Jon Dadi Bödvarsson. In the League Cup, they booked their place in the Second Round by defeating League One outfit Gillingham 2-0. Liam Kelly was the main man that day as he grabbed a brace of goals in the final 20 minutes.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) and Joey van den Berg (ankle) are back in training while Jon Dadi Bödvarsson (knee), Rory Beerens (thigh) and Tennai Watson (uknown) are rated doubtful. Tiago Ilori is available after suspension though Yann Kermorgant (hip) is ruled out until the start of October.

Fulham Preview

On the road, only Newcastle won more games than Fulham last season with 12 victories, six draws and just five defeats from their 23 away fixtures. They were the top scorers on their travels with 40 goals from 23 ties. They drew their first game 1-1 with Norwich it what was a puzzling encounter in which their fans could have thought they hammered the Canaries but it was actually the visitors who registered more shots on target and saw more of the ball. Fulham though did impress and look like they could cut teams open on the right day if they bring their shooting boots. In midweek, they had a comfortable time of it in the League Cup as they defeated League Two side Wycombe 2-0. Lucas Piazon and Denis Odoi grabbed a goal each to see them home.

Fulham Team News

Marcus Bettinelli (hamstring) is listed as day-to-day with a hamstring problem.
