Reading vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who are in opposite halves of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading put to an end a two-game losing run with a point on the road to Nottingham Forest in midweek. Omar Richards had given them a 35th minute lead and they looked to be heading for all three points until Forest equalized with five minutes to go. Derby also drew in midweek as they were held at home to Leeds United on Wednesday evening. Andreas Weimann and Kasey Palmer both netted as they twice fought back from behind to claim a point. The reverse fixture came in early November in the East Midlands and the Royals sprung a shock on that occasion coming out on top 4-2. Liam Moore, Sone Aluko, Mo Barrow and Roy Beerens netted for the visitors while Jonny Russell and Chris Martin bagged one each for the hosts.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby have not won for a while but I feel that the prices on them to win represent the value selection here. Twice fighting back from behind against Leeds should boost the mood while Reading have lost at home to Burton, Birmingham and Millwall in recent times and the home crowd could be quick to turn on Stam if they go behind early here. Andreas Weimann netted in midweek and although the Austrian is not prolific his position on the pitch and the chances he is receiving suggest that he looks a good play to score at any time in this match.

Reading Preview

The Royals have won just one of their 12 Championship fixtures though four of these have ended in a draw. They sit four points above the relegation zone and must take advantage of a run that sees four of their next five at home. At the Madejski Stadium, it has been four straight defeats and no victory in their last five in the league. They have failed to find the back of the net in any of their last three in front of their own fans. Reading would be bottom of the league if games were decided on scorelines at half-time having been ahead just six times going into the break. Only two Royals players (Mo Barrow and Jon Dadhi Bodvarsson) have netted more than four league goals this season.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott, John Swift, Axel Andresson and Paul McShane (all hamstring), Joe Mendez, Stephen Quinn (both knee) and Tommy Elphick (calf) are doubts. Jordan Obita is out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem

Derby County Preview

The Rams are starting to stutter winning just one of their last six though they have also lost just one of these. They have seen Cardiff overtake them and going into the weekend are five points behind the Welsh side in second. Away from the iPro Stadium, they have lost just one of their last 12 though this did come on their last road trip at Sheffield Wednesday. Only Wolves (11) have conceded a lower amount of goals on the road than the Rams. 19 of the 33 games that Derby have played in the league this season have gone under 2.5 goals with 12 producing exactly two goals. Only Wolves and Fulham have scored more goals than the 50 they have netted this season.

Derby County Team News

George Thorne (back), Kyle McAllister, Jamie Hanson (both groin) and Jonathan Mitchell (finger) are doubts while Sam Winnall (cruciate) is out for the season.
