Reading vs Brentford Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides at opposite ends of the Championship form table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading continued their winless run in the league to seven games as they battled out a goalless draw at the KC Stadium with Hull in their last league game. The Royals were in FA Cup action in midweek with a replay against Stevenage that they won comfortably 3-0 thanks to a Jon Dadhi Bodhvarsson hat-trick.

Brentford made it four victories from the last five with a 2-0 victory at home to struggling Bolton. Florian Jozefzoon and Neal Maupay got the goals in a game that the Bees were dominant in.

The reverse fixture came in mid-September and ended 1-1 at Griffin Park with Josh Clarke netting for the home side and Liam Kelly (penalty) for the visitors. It means that Brentford have lost just two of their last nine head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Brentford have struggled on the road in recent weeks but they have won two of their three against sides in the bottom seven and given that Birmingham and Bolton have won at Reading in recent weeks I think they look good things here.

Given that each of the last three visitors to Reading have scored exactly two goals and the Bees have scored this amount in three of their last four on the road then I think taking Brentford over 1.5 goals looks value.

Reading Preview

The Royals have now picked up just three points from their last seven in the league and have won none of these games. They have now dropped to 18th and are just five points above relegation which means manager Jaap Stam is a man under pressure.

At the Madejski Stadium, they have lost their last two in the league which came against struggling Birmingham and Burton. They have conceded two goals in each of their last three home league fixtures.

Just one of their last six and none of their last four have gone over 2.5 goals and produced a total of just 11 goals. The Berkshire outfit have netted a total of two goals in their last six matches.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) is closing in on a return while Joe Mendes, Sam Smith, Stephen Quinn (all knee), John Swift (hamstring), Paul McShane (groin) and Roy Beerens (back) are doubts. Jordan Obita is out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem

Brentford Preview

A run of four victories in five games and just one defeat (which came against Wolves) in their last six has given Brentford hope of a top-six finish. They are currently in 11th place but this is just three behind Sheffield United in sixth and just one of their next six comes against a side in the top eight.

Away from Griffin Park, they have struggled of late with three defeats, one draw and one defeat in five though before that had won three in four on the road. Each of their last four and eight of their last ten on their travels have gone over 2.5 goals.

Lasse Vibe has four in his last five Championship games while Florian Jozefzoon has two in the last three. Just 29 of the 76 goals that the Bees have been involved with this season have come in the first-half.

Brentford Team News

Henrik Dalsgaard (heel) and John Egan (concussion) are both doubts. Rico Henry (cruciate) is a long-term absentee.
