Reading vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who are expected to struggle this season.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Reading picked up a morale-boosting League Cup victory in midweek when they defeated Birmingham 2-0 in the League Cup. In the league, they lost a second successive game going down 1-0 to Nottingham Forest. Bolton were eliminated from the League Cup but put in a spirited showing going down 2-1 to high-flying Leeds. They continued their unbeaten start to the league season drawing 2-2 with Bristol City last weekend having gone two up. The two meetings between these sides last season ended in draws with it finishing 1-1 at the Madejski and 2-2 at the Macron. It means that the Royals are now unbeaten in their last eight with the Trotters though five of these have been draws.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the extent of their injury crisis, I think Reading look a little short here and as such I could not be backing them. Bolton have drawn with West Brom and Bristol City this season and were not blown away by Leeds and as such I like them in the draw no bet market. With all three of the visitors matches this season seeing both teams score I think that looks worth a bet here.

Reading Preview

The Royals have now gone seven without a victory if you consider the start of this season and the end of the last one. Just two of their last ten in the Championship have seen both teams find the back of the net. At the Madejski Stadium, they are without a win in three in the league though they did have that League Cup success. The last seven league goals scored at this ground have come in the second-half. Reading have failed to find the back of the net in four of their last five Championship matches. Yakou Meite netted in midweek in the League Cup and he looks the main goal threat for the Berkshire outfit.

Reading Team News

Garath McCleary (broken ankle), Jordan Obita (cruciate), Chris Gunter (thigh), Dave Edwards, Callum Harriot, Adrian Popa and Sone Aluko (all unknown) are out while Mo Barrow (unknown) is a doubt.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

The Trotters have made a strong start to the season picking up four points from their meetings with Bristol City and West Brom. If you add in last season they are unbeaten in three in the league and have lost just one of their last six. Away from the Macron, they have won just one of their last 12 in all competitions though that came at the Hawthorns on the opening day. The Lancashire side have found the net at least once in six of their last eight on the road. All three that Bolton have played this season have seen both teams find the back of the net and gone over 2.5 goals. Josh Magennis has netted in both of his league appearances in this campaign.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Sammy Ameobi (hip) is set to miss out.
