Reading vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture is an important one at the bottom of the table as it features two of the bottom seven. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Reading were scheduled to play Wolves this weekend in a live TV fixture at Molienux but the game was postponed. The Royals were last in action a week ago when they lost 3-1 at home to Sheffield United with an Omar Richards goal little more than a consolation. Bolton did play on Saturday and despite going one up they ended up losing 3-1 at home to Preston. Mark Beevers put them ahead after 12 minutes only for them to ship three goals in the last 37 minutes. The reverse fixture came in November at the Macron Stadium in a game that ended in a 2-2 draw. Reece Burke and Darren Pratley had put the Trotters two up after just 23 minutes but the Royals fought back through Liam Moore and a Leandro Bacuna penalty.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite their poor away form Bolton have to be backed to win this game at the prices on offer. The Royals have won just one of their last ten in front of their own fans and Wanderers and the draw in the double chance market makes sense. The visitors have kept clean sheets at Sheffield United and Norwich in recent times and against a side with three blanks from their last five in front of their own fans backing the Trotters to keep them out makes sense.

Reading Preview

The Royals are now five without a win in the Championship and have won just one of their last 14. They face four straight against teams outside the top ten and they must put some points on the board if they want to get away from the relegation zone. At the Madejski Stadium, they have taken just two points from their last seven winning just one of their last ten in front of their own fans. Only Sunderland (28) and Burton (34) have conceded more home goals than the 26 they have conceded this campaign. Each of the last four and five of the last six Reading have played in the league have seen both teams find the back of the net. If the table was decided on results at half-time then they would be bottom with just 34 points.

Reading Team News

Axel Andresson, Garath McCleary (both ankle), Yann Kermorgant, Tommy Elphick (both calf), Callum Harriott and Paul McShane (both hamstring), Joe Mendez and Stephen Quinn (both knee) are doubts. Jordan Obita is out for the remainder of the season with a cruciate ligament problem.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

The Trotters have taken just four points from their last five league fixtures a run that keeps them in the relegation mix. They sit in 19th four points above Birmingham in 22nd with three of their next four on the road. Away from the Macron Stadium, they have lost three and drawn one of their last four failing to net in any of these. The nine road goals they have scored this season is three lower than any team in the division. The 3-1 defeat Bolton suffered to Preston last time out ended a run of 13 games which had gone under 2.5 goals. It was also only the third in the last 13 that the Lancashire outfit had been involved in a tie where both teams netted.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Craig Noone (knee) and Stephen Darby (head) are doubts. Mark Little and Karl Henry are available again following suspension.
