Reading vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening game (20:00) from the Madejski Stadium who will be looking to go well in the Championship this season but have started slowly. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

A point at home to Fulham is not always a bad result but it will feel like that for Reading who played against ten-men for 89 minutes. Liam Kelly had given them a 61 st minute lead but they were pegged back in the 82 nd and could find no further way through.

Villa were given a lesson in team unity over individual talent last time out as they were beaten 3-0 by Cardiff. These two split their battles last season with the away side winning on both occasions with the game at the Madejski ending 2-1 and the one at Villa Park 3-1. Joseph Mendes grabbed a brace in one of the meetings last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I am not sure I would be rushing to back either side at the prices on offer so would recommend looking elsewhere for my bets. I like a couple of anytime plays on players who seem due a goal soon. Firstly, Joseph Mendes who is averaging 2.5 shots per game despite only playing 98 minutes and got a brace against this Villa side last season. For Villa, Scott Hogan and Henri Lansbury both look due but it is the latter at much bigger prices who I will be siding with.

Reading Preview

After their loss at Wembley in the play-off finals it has been a slow bounce back for the Royals who lost their opening game at QPR and drew their second at home to Fulham. Jaap Stam will hope that his side can shake off this play-off hangover soon. Reading are once again converting a high number of their chances with 17% of their shots going in which is a high ratio. John Swift and Joseph Mendes are the two main threats with both having 2.5 shots per game though neither have netted in the league yet. The Berkshire outfit have seen over 2.5 goals in their last four home matches against Villa in all competitions. This contrasts with the Royals general home statistics with none of their last five in the league in front of their own fans going over.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) is back in training while Jon Dadi Bödvarsson (knee) is listed day- to-day. Roy Beerens (thigh) and Tennai Watson (knee) are out for an unknown period while Yann Kermorgant (hip) is out until October at the earliest.

Aston Villa Preview

It has not been a good start to the season for Villa who were held on the opening day to a 1- 1 draw with Hull before losing 3-0 at Cardiff on Saturday. Steve Bruce is still searching for a formation to balance out his side. Aston Villa have scored at least two goals in their last four away matches against Reading in all competitions. The Midlands outfit have now netted just two goals in their last four away matches. Henri Lansbury is averaging four shots per game this season though has no league goal though he has found the net in the League Cup. Another player hitting the target but without joy is Scott Hogan with 3.5 shots on target per game.

Aston Villa Team News

Andre Green (groin) is listed day-to- day while Ahmed Elmohamady (mouth) and Jack Grealish (hip) are doubts. Jonathan Kodjia (broken ankle) and Mile Jedinak (groin) are both ruled out.
