RasenBallsport Leipzig vs Monaco Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

The Champions League newcomers RB Leipzig will be aiming for a positive start into the competition when they welcome Monaco at the Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night. RB Leipzig head into this clash on the back of a 0-2 away victory at Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga last Friday, with Naby Keita and Timo Werner both getting on the scoresheet in the second half. On the contrary, Monaco lost 4-0 on the road at Nice, with Leonardo Jardim’s men conceding two goals in each half. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

RasenBallsport Leipzig Preview

RB Leipzig have enjoyed a meteoric rise in the German football over the past few years as they were promoted in the Bundesliga last season before finishing as runner-ups to Bayern Munich at the end of the campaign. Leipzig kicked off the new Bundesliga season with a 2-0 defeat at Schalke 04 in the middle of August, but bounced back with two consecutive wins over Freiburg and Hamburger SV, scoring six goals and conceding just once in this term. Leipzig qualified for a first European campaign due to their position in the Bundesliga table last season and are now the 12th club to represent Germany in the Champions League group stage. They don’t have pedigree in the Champions League, but they are a strong side who managed to keep their last season’s best players at the club this summer. Oliver Burke and Davie Selke are the most notable departures, but Leipzig still have Timo Werner, Bruma, Sabitzer and Naby Keita, although the latter will join Liverpool next season. At home, RB Leipzig have endured a mixed run of form over the past eight months, registering five defeats, one draw and nine victories in their last 15 home fixtures across all competitions. Timo Werner has enjoyed an excellent season last term and kicked off the new Bundesliga season in a similar manner, helping the team with three goals in his three league appearances.

RasenBallsport Leipzig Team News

Fabio Coltorti is the only injury absentee for RB Leipzig ahead of this game.

Monaco Preview

Monaco secured a shock Ligue 1 title last season and they also managed to reach the Champions League Semi-finals after an impressive run which was seen them beat the likes of Tottenham, Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund. However, the Monegasque club have lost several key players throughout the summer, as Benjamin Mendy, Bernardo Silva, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Kylian Mbappe have all left the club. Despite the exodus, Monaco still managed to pick up four consecutive victories in Ligue 1 before losing 4-0 at the hands of Nice at the weekend. Regarding their Champions League record, this is Monaco’s eight group stage campaign and their best performance in this term was in 2004 when they managed to reach the final. The bad news is that Monaco have only won once in their last five away games in the Champions League, conceding at least two goals in four of these. The good news is that Monaco beat two German sides in the Champions League last season, winning 3-0 against Bayer Leverkusen in the group stage and picking-up a 3-2 victory at Borussia Dortmund in their quarter-final first leg. Radamel Falcao is definitely a player to watch here as he has already netted seven goals in his five Ligue 1 appearances so far this season. The 31-year-old striker to score anytime at odds 21/20 looks good value.

Monaco Team News

Loic Badiashile is still out through injury, while Gabriel Boschilia and Nguinda Ndiffon are all doubts.
