Rangers vs St.Johnstone Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Rangers’ outstanding form continued with a fourth consecutive victory, as the team beat Hibernian 2-1 at the Easter Road stadium. Goals from Josh Windass and Alfredo Morelos in the last five minutes of the first half cancelled out the early goal from Lewis Stevenson. St Johnstone had a heavy 3-0 home defeat against Aberdeen in the midweek match. After Adam Rooney once again hurt St Johnstone in the 20th minute, goals from Kari Arnason and Ryan Christie helped Aberdeen to a comfortable victory. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Rangers are on their best run of the 2017-18 Scottish Premier League campaign after winning four on the bounce. The last time Rangers went on a similar run was back in December 2016 and the run was brought to an end by a draw with St Johnstone. Despite winning the last two away matches, Tommy Wright’s team were far from convincing. Yet, St Johnstone have fared well at the Ibrox with just two defeats and one win in five visits. The remaining two of those games have been a draw. I would go with a draw in this game.

The pitfall for Rangers continues to be a weak defence, which has managed only one clean sheet in five. The last three league outings for the club have been with a 2-1 score and all of the games have experienced over 2.5 goals. I see value in backing both teams to score.

Rangers Preview

Rangers interim manager Graeme Murty is increasingly making himself a candidate for the permanent position, as an impressive set of results means that the club are now coming up as a realistic title challenger alongside Celtic. Four consecutive wins is an impressive feat and it puts Rangers in a great shape going into the packed December schedule, where the team is up against four games in the next two weeks. After having bought his team back to winning ways, Murty will be looking forward to improving the defensive record as the team has kept just one clean sheet in the last five. Alfredo Morelos is Rangers’ top scorer with eight goals so far.

Rangers Team News

Lee Wallace (groin) and Graham Dorrans (malleolar) are the players unavailable for Rangers.

St.Johnstone Preview

Tommy Wright has seen his St Johnstone team lose a lot of ground over the last couple of months. The team were unable to sustain a strong start to the season and now find themselves outside the top six going into the festive schedule of fixtures. Over the last six matches, St Johnstone have scored only four goals – less than any other team in the division, while conceding 11 – the third highest defensive record. The wins over Hamilton and Hibernian were largely not a representation of the club’s performances, which has been poor since September. Last season, the club scored 50 goals in the league but they have averaged around a goal per game this season. Steve MacLean and Michael O’Halloran are the top scorers at St Johnstone with five goals each.

St.Johnstone Team News

Brian Easton (knee) and Aaron Comrie (tendon) are the players unavailable for Wright.
