Rangers vs Motherwell Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Rangers’ momentum under Graeme Murty has come to an abrupt halt after a 2-1 loss against Kilmarnock during the weekend. Despite taking the lead through Declan John in the first half, Rangers were unable to prevent a second consecutive loss. Former striker Kris Boyd came back to haunt the club with a late brace. Motherwell were at the end of the 1-1 draw with Dundee at home. Paul McGowan provided the opening goal in the 47th minute, but Motherwell’s pressure finally paid off in the 61st minute when Chris Tanner converted from the spot. Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The spectacular run of victories for Rangers has been concluded with back-to-back losses. Even then, the prices are not substantially long enough to back a home win. Motherwell may have picked up a win in the recent visit to Ibrox, but Robinson’s team have been very poor of late – losing at half-time and full-time in the last four away games. Rangers have been winning at both halves in three of the last six games at all locations. I would bet on Rangers to win at half-time and full-time. Rangers are struggling for results due to a poor defensive record. The team are without a clean sheet in the last five, while Motherwell have scored in each of the last five visits to the Ibrox. A better value in the game may be backing both teams to score.

Rangers Preview

Rangers appeared to go through a splendid run of form under the stewardship of Graeme Murty. The interim manager may be given until the end of the season, but a positive set of results seemed to make him a great contender for the permanent position. Yet, the good run has come to an abrupt halt with back-to-back losses. More worryingly, these would have appeared as winnable games at the start of the season. The home defeat against St Johnstone and away loss against Kilmarnock mean that Rangers remain in the third spot with Hibernian now within three points. Alfredo Morelos leads the scoring charts at Rangers with nine goals in 18.

Rangers Team News

Kenny Miller (Achilles tendon), Jordan Rossiter (calf), Graham Dorrans (ankle), and Lee Wallace (groin) are the players unavailable for Rangers.

Motherwell Preview

Motherwell may have done well to arrest a run of consecutive defeats, but Robinson will be worried that his team are still without a victory in six SPL matches. The last victory for Motherwell was against Aberdeen in the middle of November. In fact, this is the only win for the team in the last two months of football. Hence, it is not surprising that Motherwell have now dropped into the bottom six after having been regarded as one of the contenders for the European qualification places not too long ago. At this rate, Motherwell will be quite pleased with the return to challenge for the top six places, which is not far ahead. Louis Moult is the leading scorer with eight goals, but he has been recently unavailable due to injury.

Motherwell Team News

Steve Robinson’s team will be without Ellis Plummer (hamstring) and Louis Moult (knee) due to injuries.
