Rangers vs Celtic Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Rangers enter into the Old Firm derby after having managed a 4-1 win over Falkirk in the quarter-finals of the Scottish FA Cup. Rangers were overwhelming favourites coming into the game and they took the lead through Jason Cummings. However, Falkirk shocked Ibrox by getting any closer to Aaron Muirhead. Rangers were back in front within a minute, as Cummings doubled his tally for the evening. An own goal from Muirhead put Rangers in a comfortable position will Cummings completed a second-half hat-trick. Celtic also reached the semifinals after a 3-0 win over Greenock Morton. All the goals for Brendan Rodgers’ outfit came in the second half; a brace from Mousa Dembele and a late goal from Odsonne Edouard.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Celtic continue to struggle in the absence of some key players. Even though the record over Rangers has been impeccable in recent seasons, the recent meeting between the two in December produced a draw. Rangers are aiming for a fifth consecutive win and have home advantage behind them. Celtic’s recent form has been less impressive, as the team has only picked up three wins in the last five. This goes down even further with three wins in the last seven away games. I would go with a draw. Mousa Dembele has been able to hit a decent run of form, and the Frenchman will be aware that Rangers’ defence has been far from spectacular. This presents both teams with an opportunity to find the back of the net. In such an evenly contested game, Rangers have been unable to score in the two meetings earlier in the season. A game with goals at both ends looks like the possible outcome.

Rangers Preview

Rangers have been looking extremely good in the last few weeks. After having just sealed a FA Cup semi-final tie against Celtic, Graeme Murty’s team will be looking to use this Old Firm derby as a preparation for the upcoming cup game. Rangers have reasons to focus on the FA Cup, as a six-point lead for Celtic still makes it difficult – especially considering that Rodgers’ team has a game in hand. In the last six matches, Rangers have taken more points than any other SPL team.

Rangers Team News

Graham Dorrans is the only player on the sidelines for Rangers, as he is unavailable due to ankle surgery.

Celtic Preview

Celtic will have reasons to fear about their ability to wrap up the title with several games left, as the impressive lead a few weeks ago has been reduced down to just six points. Celtic can still pull away nine points ahead of Rangers, but the points in the bag are worth more than games in hand. In the last six matches, Celtic have seen Rangers make up two points. For the time being, the hoops will not be worried excessively by the league table. Getting consistency back to their game will be the target for Celtic.

Celtic Team News

Brendan Rodgers will be without Mikael Lustig due to suspension. The game will also witness Dedryck Boyata (knee), Stuart Armstrong (knee), Craig Gordon (knee), Jonny Hayes (tibia fracture), and Nir Bitton (knee) be unavailable due to injuries.
