Queens Park Rangers vs Wigan Athletic Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. QPR continued their miserable start to the season on Tuesday night suffering a 3-0 home loss to Bristol City. The result was harsh on the Rs who were the better side but it increases the pressure on under-fire boss Steve McClaren. Wigan continued their good start to the campaign on Wednesday as they defeated Stoke 3-0 thanks to a Will Grigg brace and a goal for Gavin Massey. Athletic were fully deserving of their victory as they outplayed the Potters. The last two meetings between these sides came in the 2016/17 season and it was the London outfit who won both. The Latics have not won any of the nine previous head-to-head clashes.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Despite the contrasting starts made to the season I could not be backing Wigan at such short odds though by the same token I have seen nothing from QPR that would make me want to be with them just yet. Given QPR have shipped ten times in their last two fixtures taking the Latics to go over 1.5 goals looks the sensible approach and a small interest on over 2.5 also appeals.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs are without a point from their first four matches and things must turn soon if Steve McClaren is to stay in the role.  They sit bottom of the table (the only side without a point) with the expected goals data agreeing this a fair position for them. At Loftus Road, they have lost both league games this season and three of their last four when you add in last season. Five of their last six in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net. The 13 league goals that QPR have conceded is the highest mark in the Championship this campaign. The two goals they have netted is the joint-lowest in the division and they will hope that new loan signing Tomer Hemed can make a difference.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Sean Goss (back) and Joel Lynch (head) are doubts while Darnell Furlong (knee) is out until October. Tomer Hemed could come straight into the matchday squad following his loan from Brighton.

Wigan Athletic Preview

It has been a great start to life back in the Championship who have picked up seven points with two wins, one draw and just the one defeat. They sit eighth in the table while the expected goals data believes they should be as high as third. Away from the DW Stadium, victory in midweek over Stoke had put to an end a run of five without a win that stemmed over two seasons. Their five road goals this season is the joint-second best record in the division. Will Grigg and Nick Powell both have netted three goals in four appearances during this campaign. Seven of the ten goals that Wigan have bagged have come in the opening 45 minutes.

Wigan Athletic Team News

Joe Garner (skull fracture), Danny Burn (foot), Darron Gibson (groin), Kai Naismith and Leandro da Silva Lopes (both fitness) are all doubts.
