Queens Park Rangers vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Queens Park Rangers v Reading Betting Tips and Predictions

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) encounter at Loftus Road features two sides who finished in different halves of the table last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. The outright markets are not suggesting a great season for either of these sides. QPR are expected to stay up but finish in the lower reaches of the table while Reading are expected to slide back to mid-table following their play-off final appearance last season. Both sides will appreciate not having to travel too far for the opening day of the season though QPR hold the recent head-to-head record going unbeaten in their last four meetings. The last two at Loftus Road though have ended in a 1-1 draw including this fixture last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I don’t think this will be a great season for QPR but this is just the kind of game they thrive in. They threw in a lot of big performances last season against bigger sides such as points at Newcastle and Leeds and a victory at Reading last season. I think they can produce a result and will take them in the draw no bet market though I could not put anyone off taking them outright at a larger price. Five of the last seven that the London outfit have won at home have all come by the same scoreline which is 2-1. I think this looks worth a small stake here given I think QPR will win and they struggle to keep clean sheets.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

It was a disappointing season last time out for QPR who only finished in 18th and were just two points from relegation. After a promising start it was a poor end of season run under Ian Holloway who will hope that the summer has given him time to put things right. It has been a strangely quiet summer for the Rs who have brought in Josh Scowen and Charlie Owens to strengthen midfield but have not addressed a few key issues at the back. They have though kept a hold of most of their team including a few developing younger players and have a promising youth setup. Only six sides scored lower than their 52 goals last season so they must look to find a solid regular scorer while only four sides conceded more than the 66 they shipped so they also must look to tighten up here.

Reading Preview

Reading had an excellent season last time out finishing third before suffering a heartbreaking loss in the play-off final at Wembley. Jaap Stam is the man in charge once more after doing a great job in his first season in management. The Royals have had a quiet summer with keeper Vito Mannone and striker Jon Dadi-Bödvarsson the main players coming in. The two main players out are keeper Ali Al-Habsi and midfielder Danny Williams who signed for Huddersfield. The Berkshire side were one of their more entertaining teams with an average 2.87 goals per fixture and 27 of 45 going over 2.5 goals. Followers of shot data were against Reading a lot last season because they scored more than the data suggested, it will be interesting to see if this trend continues this season.
