Queens Park Rangers vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Boxing Day (15:00) fixture features two teams in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

QPR made it back-to-back victories over promotion rivals with a 1-0 road success away at Nottingham Forest. A Tom Leistner goal just before the break gave them all three points in a tightly fought contest low on chances.

Ipswich stretched their unbeaten run to two matches with a decent home point in a 1-1 draw with Sheffield United. Ellis Harrison put them ahead but the Blades fought back to claim a point that was the least they deserved.

The reverse fixture came in mid-October at Portman Road and it saw the Rs come out on top 2-0 thanks to an own-goal and a Tomer Hemed penalty.  It stretched their unbeaten run to four against the Suffolk outfit.

Betting Tips and Predictions

QPR have beaten back-to-back promotion rivals and convinced will be high but I could not be backing them at such short odds. Ipswich held Sheffield United at the weekend and will be stubborn opponents and as such I would look elsewhere to find the value.

Pawel Wszolek has netted in three of his last four appearances and although not quite the massive value he was a few weeks ago still looks worth an anytime scorer play. For the visitors Freddie Sears takes penalties and knows where the goal is and he also looks worth a small interest.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs have exceeded pre-season expectations by sitting in tenth place with 34 points which sees them four from the play-offs. The expected goals data has them in this exact position through a transfer embargo means they may struggle to kick on during the second part of the campaign.

At Loftus Road, they have been good winning six, losing four and drawing just one of their 11 matches. 16 of the 28 goals the London side have bagged have come in front of their own fans.

The 28 goals QPR have bagged has them in the middle third of the table with Nahki Wells leading the way with five. Their defence has conceded 32 times through they have kept eight clean sheets this season.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Joel Lynch, Alex Baptiste (both unknown), Angel Rangel (thigh), Tomer Hemed (groin) and Geoff Cameron (ankle) are doubts while Olamide Shodipo (thigh) is a long-term absentee.

Ipswich Town Preview

The Tractor Boys have had a miserable start to the season and sit bottom of the Championship at the half-way point. That being said four points from there last two and some awful form from the teams around them means they are just four from safety.

Away from Portman Road, it has been tough this campaign with eight defeats, two draws and one win from 11. 22 of the 38 they have conceded in the league have come on their travels.

Only Bolton (15) have scored a lower amount of goals than the 19 that Ipswich have bagged this season. They also have the joint-third worst defensive record in the division with 38 conceded.

Ipswich Town Team News

Jon Walters, Tom Adeyami (both Achilles), Cole Skuse and Emyr Huws (both knee) are long-term absentees.
