Queens Park Rangers vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

QPR were scheduled to face Aston Villa at the weekend but the game was postponed because of the weather. The last match they played was on February 24th when they lost 5-2 at home to Nottingham Forest despite a goal from Matt Smith and Massimo Luongo. Derby continued their recent struggles as they suffered a 2-1 home to loss to in-form Fulham on Saturday. A Tom Huddlestone goal in the 68th minute brought them back to 2-1 but they could not find a further breakthrough. The reverse fixture came in November at the iPro Stadium and County won that one 2-0 with a goal each from Matej Vydra and Tom Lawrence. It was the third straight meeting between the sides won by the Rams.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Derby are the stronger side but such is their shortage of confidence after a poor run I could not be taking them here. QPR have beaten Wolves, Cardiff and Sheffield United here so can be dangerous though they have also shipped five to Forest so it is hard to make a case to be with them. It finished 2-1 when the Rs hosted Villa, Cardiff and Wolves so going over 2.5 goals makes sense and then trying to enhance it by taking the over mark and both teams to score also is a sensible approach.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs have lost each of their last two and five of their last seven and although they should be okay still must look over their shoulder at the relegation zone. They sit in 16th place with nine points between them and Birmingham in 22nd. At Loftus Road, they have won two of their last three but just three of their last nine in the Championship. Matt Smith has netted in his last two in front of his own fans and three of his last five. Three of the last four and five of the last seven that QPR have played have seen a total of two or three goals. The London outfit have failed to net a first-half goal in their last seven league matches.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Jordan Cousins (illness), Idrissa Sylla (calf) and Grant Hall (knee) are doubts while Jamie Mackie (back surgery) and David Wheeler (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Derby County Preview

The Rams are now five without a victory and have won just one of their last eight and have dropped to fifth place. They are seven points off Cardiff in second place and have played a game more. Away from the iPro Stadium, they are without a victory in three though have lost just one of their last 13. Only Fulham (30) and Middlesbrough (26) have scored more road goals than County this season. Each of the last three Derby have played have seen both teams find the back of the net and gone over 2.5 goals. In their last four fixtures the East Midlands side have shipped six goals in the opening half.

Derby County Team News

Chris Baird will miss the game through suspension. Kyle McAllister, Jamie Hanson (both groin) and Jonathan Mitchell (finger) are doubts while Sam Winnall (cruciate) is out for the season.
