Queens Park Rangers vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture is live on Sky Sports and features two sides in the middle third of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

QPR stretched their unbeaten run to four with a comfortable home victory over Sheffield Wednesday in midweek coming out on top 3-0. Tomer Hemed, Luke Freeman and Nahki Wells weighed in with one each to give them a deserved three points.

Aston Villa continued their away day woes with a 2-1 defeat at Norwich in midweek despite taking the lead through James Chester. The result was perhaps a little harsh on the Midlands outfit who probably did enough to claim a point.

The two meetings between these sides last season were won by the team on the road with it ending 3-1 to the Rs at Villa Park and 2-1 to Villa at Loftus Road. Jonathan Kodjia and Albert Adomah both have two goals in their last four.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the recent form between these sides I am surprised to see the prices on offer an therefore recommend QPR in the draw no bet market. The home side have taken ten points from their last four at all grounds and saw off Sheffield Wednesday comfortably here in midweek. Aston Villa meanwhile are poor travelers and are without a road victory in six so get on the London outfit.

Pawel Wszolek did not score in midweek against Wednesday but the QPR midfielder looked a real threat putting three shots on target. I think he looks due a goal and against a keeper in Orjan Nyland who has conceded the most goals from outside the box in the Championship this season (five).

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs have taken ten points from a possible 12 on offer in their last four and have lost just two of their last ten. Steve McClaren was given time by the owners to get things right and he looks like he has found the right formula.

At Loftus Road, it is three victories, one draw and one defeat from their last five with this loss coming by a single goal to Norwich. The London outfit are tough to score against at their own place conceding just two in their last five in front of their own fans.

Eight of the 14 QPR have played this season have gone under 2.5 goals with an average of 2.36 goals per fixture.  Just one of their last seven and two of their last 11 have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Darnell Furlong (ligament) is building up fitness after a long absence while Olamide Shodipo (thigh) is set to miss the next few months.

Aston Villa Preview

Villa have now won one of their last six and two of their last 11 though in a tightly packed table a few wins could move them right up. Dean Smith has been in charge for two games now and has seen both the good and bad of his team.

Away from Villa Park, they are without a win in their last six losing each of their last two matches. One positive the Midlands side can take is that they have found the back of the net at least once in each of their road matches.

Eight of the 14 Aston Villa have been involved with in the Championship have gone over 2.5 goals. All seven of their matches on the road this season have found both teams find the back of the net.

Aston Villa Team News

Micah Richards (fitness), Keinan Davis (groin) and Harry McKirdy (dislocated shoulder) are doubts while John McGinn returns from a one game suspension.
