Queens Park Rangers vs Aston Villa Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two sides looking to return to the Premier League after a couple of years out. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

QPR were hammered 4-0 going into the international break at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest. The Rs would have gone into the game in good heart after back-to-back victories over Wolves and Sheffield United but a goal either side of half-time put the game beyond them. Aston Villa also suffered a disappointing defeat as they went down 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday. It was a miserable start for Villa who saw the Owls two up in 23 minutes and then had John Terry stretchered off and only a 96th minute Chris Samba goal gave them anything to cheer. These two sides met twice last season and it was the Midlands outfit who won both games and by the same 1-0 scoreline. Jonathan Kodjia netted both those goals and if fit will fancy his chances against a side he does well against.

Betting Tips and Predictions

After victories over Wolves and Sheffield United I am not going to be taking on QPR here though the hit and miss nature of QPR means they are not a side I want to side with at those odds so the match markets need to be overlooked. Villa will feel the loss of John Terry at the back and so this game might feature more goals than anticipated. Nine of the last 13 for the hosts have seen both teams score and this is five of seven in home games so take YES in the both teams to score market. I also think over 2.5 goals looks worth an interest as this happened in five of their last seven at Loftus Road while Villa have netted nine times in their last four on their travels.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Hoops have had a middling start to the season which has them in 15th place with a record of five victories, six draws and five defeats from their opening 16 matches. They seem to raise their game against the bigger sides but drop points in matches against teams you would expect them to do better against. At Loftus Road, they are tough to beat with five victories, one draw and just two defeats in eight. They have won all three at their own ground they have played against teams in the top eight. They have netted just 19 times this season and have four players on four goals (Matt Smith, Connor Washington and Idrissa Sylla). Their defence is a bottom third ranked unit shipping 22 goals though 15 of these have come on the road.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

Grant Hall (knee) has suffered a setback in training while James Perch (dislocated kneecap) and Nedum Onuoha (hamstring) are still absent.

Aston Villa Preview

Defeat last time out put to an end a three-game unbeaten run for Villa and was just their second loss in their last 13 in the league. The Midlands outfit sat in sixth place going into the international break and despite the loss of John Terry will hope to have the squad depth to keep themselves in the promotion picture. Away from Villa Park, they have won three and lost just one of their last five which came against league leaders Wolves. They have kept clean sheets in four of these five matches on their travels. They have netted 22 times this campaign Albert Adomah and Conor Hourihane their top goalscorers with five goals each. Their defence is the joint fourth best in the division and they have kept seven clean sheets.

Aston Villa Team News

John Terry (broken toe) is out until February while Andre Green (hamstring), Gabby Agbonlahor (calf), Jonathan Kodjia (ankle), Rushian Hepburn-Murphy (knee) and Joshua Onomah (groin) are all doubts.
