Preston North End vs Wolverhampton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture will have implications on the top-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston picked up a useful point on the road to Brentford in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw. North-End took the lead through Tom Barkhuizen only to be pegged back six-minutes later and when Gregory Cunningham was dismissed 16 minutes from time they were left hanging on for the point. Wolves continued going strong at the top as they defeated QPR 2-1 in their last league fixture. Wanderers were two up after 21 minutes through Alfred N’Diaye and Helder Costa though QPR made them work for all three points. The reverse fixture came towards the end of October at Molineux and was an entertaining affair that the home side won 3-2. Leo Bonatini grabbed a brace (one penalty) for the Black Country outfit while Ivan Cavaleiro also scored while Jordan Hugill and a Conor Coady own-goal saw the Lillywhites stay close.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Preston are no mugs at home and are in good form but a price this good on Wolves does not come around often in the season and they have already shown they are the class act in the division. It is the equivalent of getting Man City at this price to win at an Everton or a Leicester and as such must be backed. The Black Country outfit have scored 28 first-half goals this season and they look value to net in the first 45 minutes here as they have done in three of their last four in the league.

Preston North End Preview

The Lillywhites have lost none of their last five in the league and just one of their last 15. They sit in seventh place just three points outside the play-offs though each of their next three and five of their next six are against top-half opponents. At Deepdale, they have lost just one of their last seven and just three over the entire league season. Each of their last four in front of their own fans has seen both teams find the back of the net. Tom Barkhuizen has found the back of the net in two of his last three appearances for Preston. Just three of their last ten Championship fixtures have gone over 2.5 goals and just one of their last 17 over 3.5.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Pearson and Gregory Cunningham are suspended while Ben Davies and Sean Maguire (both hamstring) are doubts.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Preview

It is now three straight victories for Wolves who look unstoppable at the top of the Championship table. They are 12 points clear at the top of the table going into this weekend. Away from Molineux, it is eight without defeat in the league and ten victories from over the season. Only Fulham (27) have scored more goals than the Black Country outfit this season (23) while their defence is the best in the division on their travels. In 17 of the 31 league matches played this campaign Wolves have been ahead going into the interval. They have shipped just one goal in their last six keeping clean sheets in five of these.

Wolverhampton Wanderers Team News

Romain Saiss (hamstring), Joe Mason (stomach) and Phil Ofosu-Ayeh (ankle) are doubts. Carl Ikeme is a long-term absentee as he continues his fight against Leukemia
