Preston North End vs Swansea City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship fixture features the team in 17th playing host to the team in 12th. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston were eliminated in the FA Cup Third Round at Deepdale by League One side Doncaster with an Andrew Hughes goal a mere consolation in a 3-1 loss. In the league, it is four without a win following a New Year’s Day 2-1 loss at Rotherham.

Swansea booked their place in the last 32 of the FA Cup with a 3-0 road victory at Aston Villa with Courtney Baker-Richardson, Jay Fulton and Nathan Dyer getting their goals. In the Championship, they last played January 1st and won 4-1 at Reading with Ollie McBurnie netting twice (one penalty) and one each from Connor Roberts and defender Mike van der Hoorn.

The reverse fixture came on August 11th at the Liberty Stadium and the Welsh side won 1-0 that day thanks to a Jay Fulton goal. The expected goals data from that day suggests that was a fair reflection of the balance of play.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair and that is fair enough with respect paid to Preston who are tough to beat at their own place and Swansea who have had a few good results recently.

Instead of the match market I like to look at the goals market and I think over 2.5 goals looks the way to play this. Jordan Stockley is a goalscorer and should help north-End while the Swans have seen each of their last four on the road go over 2.5 goals. I also think at the odds a small interest on over 3.5 makes sense.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have taken just one point from their last four matches and sit in 17th place in the table. They are just seven points from the relegation zone and must take advantage of a run of games that sees just one of their next five against teams in the top eight.

At Deepdale, North-End have lost just one of their last eight through they have also won just one of their last four. Both teams to score has happened in each of their last seven and 11 of their last 12 at their own place.

Preston have been busy in the transfer window grabbing a quarter of players in Jordan Stockley, Josh Ginnelly, Connor Ripley and Brad Potts. Chris Maxwell has been allowed to join Charlton on loan while Connor Simpson has joined Carlisle.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Davies (unknown), Callum Robinson, Lewis Moult, (both hamstring), Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both knee) are all expected to miss out.

Swansea City Preview

It is four points from their last two for the Swans who are in touching distance of the play-offs in 12th place. They are seven behind Derby in sixth and just two of their next eight are against teams in the top eight.

Away from the Liberty, the Welsh outfit have been hit and miss with a win one lose one sequence from their last six. Each of their last four on the road have seen both teams net and gone over 2.5 goals.

Swansea have yet to sign a player in January and fans will hope it is a better period than the disaster that was the summer transfer window. A thin squad is unlikely to see many go out although Aaron Lewis has joined Doncaster on loan.

Swansea City Team News

An illness has swept through Swansea and Wilfried Bony, Ollie McBurnie and Jefferson Montero are all doubts. Tom Carroll (groin) is set to miss the next few weeks while Martin Olsson (Achilles) has been ruled out for the season.
