Preston North End vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

Preston North End v Sheffield Wednesday Betting Tips and Predictions

This Saturday afternoon game (15:00) at Deepdale features two features two sides who finished in the top-half of the Championship last season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Bookmakers are expecting different seasons for these two. Preston are expected to finish in the lower half of the table while Wednesday are expected to be battling it out for the top spots. They start here with their opening encounter with the Owls coming out on top in their battles last season drawing 1-1 here and then winning the home game 2-1. Fernando Forestieri netted twice against North End last season though they both came in the game at Hillsborough.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Wednesday will do better than Preston this season but they look too short here. Alex Neil had a good home record as Norwich manager and a squad that has seen limited changes could be in for another solid season. The draw looks the most likely runner but the prices indicate Preston in the draw no bet market is the way to play this. The man back in the goalscorer markets is Tom Barkhuizen who grabbed six in the final 12 games of last season and looks set to go well this season.

Preston North End Preview

It was a good season for Preston last time out who were never in trouble having finished in 11th. Simon Grayson has since departed as manager for Sunderland and has been replaced by former Norwich boss Alex Neil. It has been a quiet summer so far in terms of transfers in with former Man United youngster Josh Harrop and former Canaries keeper Declan Rudd the main additions to the team. Departures have been kept to a minimum with striker Jermaine Beckford and keeper Anders Lindegaard released on free transfers. The Lillywhites were one of the more entertaining sides with an average of 2.76 goals per game while Alex Neil showed at Norwich a desire for attacking sides. They need to push on away from home this season and Neil will hope it goes better than his poor away record in charge of the East Anglian outfit.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

Wednesday came close once more but again fell in the play-offs after coming fourth in the regular season. Carlos Carvalhal is the man in charge once more but his is one of the cases where to the outsider it looks a fine job but for many who watch the Owls every game he makes many head-scratching decisions. The Yorkshire side have not made any major surgery this summer with George Boyd from Burnley their big signing of the summer. They have kept most of their team with just a few free transfers leaving and they should be strong again this season. For a squad with Jordan Rhodes, Sam Winnall, Fernando Forestieri amongst others it was a shock to see Wednesday struggle for goals compared to most big sides which might be a result of their negative tactics. 30 of their 46 fixtures last season produced two or three goals and they averaged just 2.28 goals per match.
