Preston North End vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) Championship game from Deepdale features two sides who have had a solid start to the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Preston suffered their first defeat of the season last time out going down to a 1-0 defeat at Derby. They could have few complaints as the Rams created more chances and North-End offered little going forward. Reading picked up their first league victory of the season in midweek with a comfortable 2-1 victory over Aston Villa. Mo Barrow and a Glenn Whelan own-goal saw them home although they had a little scare when Villa netted in the last three minutes. The home side came out on top of their meetings last season with Preston winning at their ground 3-0 and Reading winning at their home 1-0. Tom Barkhuizen got a brace in the corresponding fixture last season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The prices on this game look about right with Preston favourites due to home advantage but Reading having a solid chance of claiming all three points. NO in the both teams to score markets is surprisingly the outsider of the two given neither side are blessed with natural scorers. I think this worth looks a small interest as does the time of the first goal not coming before 30:00.

Preston North End Preview

It has been a mixed start for Preston with one victory, one draw and one defeat from their opening three games. This game is one of three in the next four that North-End have against sides expected to do well this season (Cardiff and Middlesbrough are the others). At home, the Lancashire side beat Sheffield Wednesday on the opening day which was their eighth victory in their last 11 league home ties. Seven of their last ten in front of their own fans has seen both teams score. North End are one of three sides in the division who failed to score in open play (Bolton and Sheffield United are the other two). Callum Robinson has failed to score in the league this season but is averaging three shots per game.

Reading Preview

Reading have had a mixed start to the season with one victory, one draw and one defeat with the victory coming in their last game. None of their next five are against side expected to end the season in the top six so this is a chance to get some points on board. On the road, the Royals have won just three of their last 11 and just one of their last five. A feature of these fixtures has been both teams to score which has occurred in five of their last seven road trips. No side has had more possession from their opening three games than Reading who have seen 58% of the ball. Four of the Berkshire side players are averaging two or more shots per game topped by Liam Kelly who is averaging 3.3 per game.

Reading Team News

Callum Harriott (hamstring) is closing in on a return while Tennai Watson (knock) and Jon Dadi Bödvarsson (knee) are doubts. Yann Kermorgant (hip) is not expected back before October.
