Preston North End vs Reading Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides struggling at the wrong end of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Preston looked on course for their second victory of the season after going two up in 16 minutes against Bolton but had to settle for a 2-2 draw. Callum Robinson and Alan Browne got the goals in a match that also saw them have Ben Pearson dismissed. Reading are still seeking their first victory of the campaign and they went down 2-1 at home to Sheffield Wednesday last time. The Berkshire outfit can consider themselves unlucky not to have taken all three points never mind losing the game. The two meetings between these sides last season were won by the home team and by the same 1-0 scoreline. In fact, each of the last four and seven of the last nine head-to-heads have been won by the hosts.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Reading have already picked up draws at Aston Villa and Blackburn and look capable of getting something here so take them and the draw in the double chance market against a side struggling with injuries. In a fixture with no real striker to dominate the goalscoring markets, I like a little each-way play at larger prices on defender Liam Moore who has already netted this season.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have made a slow start to the season picking up just one victory, two draws and suffering three defeats from six. They sit in 19th place with five points which the expected goals data tables feels is very harsh and has them as high as ninth. At Deepdale, they have two draws and a victory this season and are six without a defeat in the league. Each of the last two and three of the last four in front of their own fans have seen both teams score and gone over 2.5 goals. Preston have seen four of their six in the Championship go under 2.5 goals though they have yet to be involved in a goalless draw. North-End are slow starters and have found themselves ahead just once this season going into the break.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Pearson and Ryan Ledsen are suspended while Alan Browne (calf) and Michael Crowe (unknown) are doubts.  Sean Maguire (hamstring) and Billy Bodin (cruciate) are long-term absentees.

Reading Preview

The Royals have had a tough start to the 2018/19 campaign losing four times, drawing twice and failing to win any. They have two points and sit bottom of the table though the expected goals data feels this is extremely harsh and has them in 11th. Away from the Madejski Stadium, they are without a win in three but did pick up useful points at Blackburn and Aston Villa. They have won just once on the road all season and that came way back on January 30th at Burton. They have split their record exactly in the overs/unders market with three going under and three going over. They have been level in four of their six played so far going into the half-time break.

Reading Team News

Jordan Obita (cruciate) is still a few weeks away from a return to action while doubts persist over Dave Edwards and Callum Harriott (both unknown).
