Preston North End vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game features two teams in the bottom-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston battled out a 1-1 draw with Norwich at Carrow Road last time out but as boss Alex Neil stated after the game they were unlucky not to claim all three. A 70th minute Tom Barkhuizen goal was the least they deserved for all their efforts. QPR produced a remarkable fightback to claim a home draw with Brentford in a game they were trailing 2-0 in going into injury time. Matt Smith netted in the 93rd minute and Luke Freeman in the 94th to claim an unlikely point. The two meetings between these sides last season were won by North End who won 2-1 at their own ground and 2-0 at Loftus Road. It continues a good record they have which has seem them go unbeaten in their last five head-to-heads.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given their recent troubles at Deepdale I could not be backing Preston to win the game though by the same means I don’t trust QPR. The match markets then look worth swerving from a betting angle. Both teams score around 55% or more of their goals in the second 45 minutes while the four that were netted in the Rs game on Monday night came in the second-half so backing this to be the highest scoring half makes sense. On a similar vein, I don’t think we will see an early goal so back no goal to come before 29:00.

Preston North End Preview

It is no defeat in the last three for the Lilywhites although in a wider context it is just one victory from their last nine. They sit in middle table and will welcome three of their next four games coming at home. At Deepdale, they have struggled of late with no victory in their last five with three of these ending in a draw. A lack of home goals is an issue with them failing to fire in three of the last five in front of their own fans. Goals in general have been a problem in recent times for Preston who have bagged just three in their last five. Just 36% of the goals they have scored in the opening half and none of these in the first 15 minutes.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Pearson is available following suspension. Sean Maguire (hamstring) is a long-term absentee while Gregory Cunningham and Tommy Spurr (both knee issues) are expected to miss out.

Queens Park Rangers Preview

The Rs seemed to be headed for their fourth straight defeat on Monday night but they scored two late goals to rescue a point. This marks the start of a run of games where just one of their next five opponents is below them in the table. Away from Loftus Road, they have not registered a victory this season though three of the last five have ended in a draw. They are struggling for road goals with just three in their last five and blanking in their last two. QPR have conceded seven goals in the 15 minutes before and after the interval in their last four fixtures. Around 56% of the goals they have scored have come in the second-half with 36% in the last 15 minutes.

Queens Park Rangers Team News

The Rs have extensive injuries at the back with Joel Lynch (foot), Darnell Furlong (sore knee) doubts and Nedum Onuoha (hamstring), Grant Hall and James Perch (both knee problems) long-term absentees.
