Preston North End vs Norwich City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) features the side in eighth place in Preston who still have a shot at the play-offs.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston made it back-to-back victories last time out as they defeated QPR 2-1 at Loftus Road.  They were grateful to a Callum Robinson brace for picking up three points that their performance deserved.

Norwich were the better side in their previous match but still found themselves going down 2-0 at home to Cardiff.  The game seemed to be heading to a goalless draw until two goals in the final five minutes.

The reverse fixture came late in November and saw Alex Neil make his return to Carrow Road where he once managed.  It ended 1-1 with James Maddison netting for City and Tom Barkhuizen for North-End.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Preston have won just three of their last eight and while they have stronger motives to win Norwich are not without their own motives.  Firstly, this is up against their old manager Alex Neil and secondly, they have the desire to finish above local rivals Ipswich. At these prices, I think the Canaries and the draw in the double chance market looks the way to play.

James Maddison is a player I like to score at any time here as he will have a point to prove to Alex Neil who for some reason did not select him much.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have won their last two to move themselves into eighth and keep alive their play-off hopes.  They sit three behind Millwall in sixth but just one of their next three is against a team in the top-half.

At Deepdale, their form has been mixed with three victories, three defeats and two draws in their last eight.  At their own ground eight of their last ten played have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Callum Robinson has three goals in his last six while Sean Maguire has eight in the last 11 matches.  Around 72% of the league goals that Preston have scored this season have come in the second-half.

Sean Maguire (hamstring) is their only doubt

Norwich City Preview

The Canaries have won just one of their last five and two of their last 13 as their season slides out.  They have three remaining fixtures and are on the same points as Ipswich and finishing ahead of their local rivals is their sole remaining target.

Away from Carrow Road, it is six without a victory though three of these have finished all-square.  Each of the last six the East Anglian outfit have played on the road have seen both teams find the back of the net.

James Maddison is their leading goalscorer this season with 14 Championship goals including five in the last eight.  Around 60% of the goals that Norwich have scored this season have come in the second-half.

Norwich City Team News

Marley Watkins (illness), Onel Hernandez (hamstring) are doubts while Louis Thompson (Achilles), Tom Trybull and Matt Jarvis (ankle) and Marco Steiperman (hernia) are long-term absentees
