Preston North End vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Boxing Day (15:00) fixture features two sides in the bottom-half of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston saw their two-game winning run come to an end as they went down 1-0 away to managerless Sheffield Wednesday. The Lilywhites played 64 minutes with ten-men following a 26th minute dismissal of Ben Pearson.

Hull made it back-to-back victories and are without a defeat in five following a 3-2 home success over Swansea. The Tigers took the game through a Jarrod Bowen brace and one from Tommy Elphick to claim a well-deserved three points.

The reverse fixture came in mid-October and finished in a 1-1 draw with a Jarod Bowen penalty being cancelled out by a Lewis Moult goal. It stretches to four the unbeaten record North-End have in their meetings.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the prices on offer here which make Preston slight favourites because of their home form. Of the three options I would probably lean to Hull at the moment as they are showing greater form but I am happy to look at other markets for the value.

The last five at Deepdale in the league and nine of the last ten have seen both teams net and with the Tigers bagging ten in their last four both teams to score looks the play as does over 2.5 goals while these could also be combined in a double.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites sit 15th in the Championship table at the midpoint of the season and look a side headed upwards rather than down.  he expected goals data has them in 17th but an extensive injury list is beginning to calm down.

At Deepdale, the Lancashire side have been decent winning five times and losing on just two occasions. An incredible 26 of the 35 goals they have scored this campaign have come at their own place.

Preston need to address their defensive woes having shipped the joint-third highest amount of goals in 38. Going forward they have netted the previously mentioned 35 times and are led by Callum Robinson with nine.

Preston North End Team News

Josh Earl (thigh), Callum Robinson, Brandon Barker, Sean Maguire (all hamstring), Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both knee) are all expected to miss out.  Ben Pearson will sit this one game out through suspension.

Hull City Preview

The Tigers are in 16th place but 11 points from their last five fixtures suggests this is also a team looking up rather than down. The expected goal data has them in 16th and they should have more than enough to not get dragged into a relegation battle.

Away from the KC Stadium, they have been okay with three victories, three draws and five defeats in 11. They need to tighten up on the road with 19 of the 32 they have conceded coming away from home.

Hull are the sixth lowest scorers in the Championship with 26 goals and are heavily dependent on Jarrod Bowen and Fraizer Campbell who have eight each.  Their defence is solid with a mid-level 32 conceded keeping just five clean sheets so far.

Hull City Team News

Markus Henriksen (illness), Reece Burke (hamstring) and Eric Lihaj (calf) are doubts while Jon Toral, Angus MacDonald (both calf) and James Weir (meniscus) are long-term absentees.
