Preston North End vs Hull City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon fixture (15:00) features two sides in opposite halves of the Championship table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston come into the game on the back of a 3-0 victory in midweek at the City Ground against Nottingham Forest. The goals were shared around the team with one each for Billy Bodin, Tom Barkhuizen and Daniel Johnson.

Hull were also in action in midweek at the KC Stadium where they shared a goalless draw with Leeds. The Tigers can count themselves a little unlucky as they dominated possession and the expected goals data.

The reverse fixture came at the end of September and North-End won that one 2-1. Tom Barkhuizen gave the Lillywhites the lead only for Jarrod Bowen to level up and the game seem headed for a draw until an 88th Callum Robinson winner.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given that Preston have won just five of 14 at home I could not bring myself to back them at those prices though I will not be looking to take them on with a Hull side with just one road success all season.

Hull have blanked in seven of their last eight while Preston have scored 65% of their goals in the second-half so it looks worth taking the game to be goalless at half-time and no early goal (which is set at 32:00).

Preston North End Preview

Eight points from their last five fixtures means North-End are keeping pace with the top six and sit just outside the play-offs. At the transfer deadline, they lost forward Jordan Hugill to West Ham while the incomings were quiet.

At Deepdale, they are without a victory in three now being held by Birmingham and Forest while losing to Middlesbrough. Just one of the last seven in front of their own fans has gone over 2.5 goals.

Just 35% of the league goals Preston have netted this season have come in the first-half with just 3% in the opening 15 minutes. Following the sale of Hugill their highest scorer is Tom Barkhuizen who has just five league goals.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Davies and Sean Maguire (both hamstring) are doubts for this game

Hull City Preview

It is now eight in the league without a victory for the Tigers and just one win in their last 16 which has put them right into the relegation battle. During the transfer window, they signed Angus MacDonald from Barnsley and secured a loan for Harry Wilson from Liverpool.

Away from the KC Stadium, they have lost each of their last four which all came by the same 1-0 scoreline. The nine goals they have scored on the road is the joint-second lowest in the division.

Hull have now blanked in seven of their last eight in the league and scored just two goals in total in these ties. Around 56% of their goals have come in the second-half with 26% in the final 15 minutes.

Hull City Team News

Stephen Kingsley (groin) and Abel Hernandez (Achilles) are doubts. Ryan Mason (skull fracture), Moses Odubajo and James Weir (both knee) are long-term absentees.
