Preston North End vs Derby County Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) fixture features the side in sixth on the road to a team have won back-to-back games and sit 16th.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston stretched their unbeaten run to three with their second successive victory with a 2-0 success at Stoke. Alan Browne put them ahead after 20 minutes and then Brad Potts secured the points ten minutes from time.

Derby booked their place in the FA Cup Fifth Round last time out with a 1-0 road triumph at Accrington thanks to a Martyn Waghorn goal.  In the league, they last played on the 19th and defeated Reading 2-1 thanks to a goal each from Duane Holmes and Harry Wilson.

The reverse fixture came on August 25th which Derby won 2-0 thanks to a goal each from Mason Mount and Richard Keogh. It means that North-End are now without a win in their last 11 meetings with the Rams.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Preston are favourites to win the game but given they have won just one of their last five at Deepdale I am not rushing to get involved. Derby have been in and out on the road and a lengthy injury list puts me off backing them.

I like a couple of goalscorer plays on this match with both sides having firepower in their ranks. For the hosts Alan Browne and Brad Potts both have two in two but with the latter going off at the biggest price he appeals. For the visitors Jack Marriott is the obvious call but with illness doubts I will go for Harry Wilson who has three in his last six on the road.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have taken seven points from their last three fixtures and lost just one of their last five. They sit in 16th place ten points outside the play-offs and 12 above relegation so have little to play for.

At Deepdale, the Lancashire outfit are three without a win and have taken all three points in just one of their last five. Each of their last eight at their own place have seen both teams find the back of the net.

Just two of the last five Preston Championship games have gone over 2.5 goals but none of the last six have gone under 1.5. Around 62% of the goals that they have scored this season have come after the break.

Preston North End Team News

Tom Clarke (calf), Callum Robinson (hamstring) are doubts while Billy Bodin and Josh Harrop (both knee) are long-term absentees and could miss the remainder of the season.

Derby County Preview

The Rams have been a mixed bag of late in the league with two wins, three draws and two defeats from their last seven. They sit in sixth place though Bristol City are just behind them in seventh with the gap being two points.

Away from Pride Park, the East Midlands side have followed a pattern of won one lost one over the last six losing the last one 2-0. Harry Wilson and Jack Marriott have both netted three times in their last six on their travels.

Derby have seen three of their last five in the Championship go over 2.5 goals while the two that did not have produced two goals each. 52% of the goals County have scored have come before the break with 35% in the opening 30 minutes.

Derby County Team News

The Rams have a wealth of selection concerns with Tom Lawrence (hamstring), Jack Marriott (illness), Scott Carson (knee) and Andre Wisdom (groin) doubts while Jayden Bogle is suspended.  Mason Mount (hamstring), Craig Forsyth, Marcus Olsson (both cruciate) and Curtis Davies (Achilles) are long-term absentees. Andy King and Ashley Cole will be in the squad following moves.
