Preston North End vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) fixture features two sides in the hunt for an end of season play-off spot. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Preston got back to winning ways at the weekend as they defeated Bolton 3-1 at the Macron Stadium. They were one down but three goals in a 37-minute spell (two from Sean Maguire, one from Tom Barkhuizen) secured them three points. Bristol City also got back to winning ways on Saturday as they eased past Sheffield Wednesday 4-0 at Ashton Gate. Bobby Reid was the star of the show with a hat-trick (including one penalty) while Josh Brownhill grabbed the other. The reverse fixture came in November in Bristol and it was North-End who came out on top that day winning 2-1. Paul Gallagher and Callum Robinson netted their goals with Cauley Woodrow getting a late consolation for the Robins.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the odds on offer here that make Preston marginal favourites but their tendency to draw means I could not back them while Bristol City are struggling on the road so this looks a tough game to predict. These two sides tend to do the bulk of their scoring in the second-half so back the final 45 minutes to be the highest scoring and take a small interest on YES both teams will score in this period.

Second-half to be the highest scoring 45 minutes

YES both teams to score in the second-half

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites put to an end a four-game winless run and are still in touch with the play-offs as they sit ninth just three points behind their opponents here. Their next three home fixtures are all against teams in the top six. At Deepdale, they have won just one of their last six and three of their last 13 in the Championship. Five of their last six in front of their own fans have seen both teams find the back of the net. Sean Maguire grabbed a brace in the last game from off the bench while Tom Barkhuizen has netted in three of his last five. Just 14% of the league goals Preston have scored have come in the first 30 minutes and 32% in the first-half.

Preston North End Team News

Tom Clarke (knock) is their only doubt while Darnell Fisher is available following a suspension.

Bristol City Preview

The Robins put to an end a five-game winless run in the league last time out as they registered just their second victory in the last ten. Automatic promotion is gone but they still have a chance of the play-offs and they sit in sixth place with just two top eight teams to play between now and the end of the season. Away from Ashton Gate, it is six without a victory in the Championship though three of these ended all-square. They have blanked in four of their last five on the road and netted just two times in total from these ties. Three of the last five Bristol City have played have seen both teams score but seven of their last ten have not. After a quiet spell, Bobby Reid is back in form having netted five times in his last four appearances.

Bristol City Team News

Nathan Baker (concussion), Milan Djuric (groin) and Jens Hegeler (knee) are doubts while Matty Taylor (hernia) and Callum O’Dowda (ankle) are long-term absentees.
