Preston North End vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture features two sides who are looking to bounce back after a defeat last weekend. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Preston suffered their second successive league defeat going down 2-0 to Derby at the weekend. In midweek, they were in League Cup action away to Leeds and picked up a morale-boosting 2-0 success with goals from Brandon Barker and a Daniel Johnson penalty. Bolton suffered their first Championship loss of the season last weekend going down to a 3-0 home loss to Sheffield United. They were not in action in midweek as they were eliminated in the League Cup in Round One. The two meetings between these Lancashire rivals last season saw North-End take four points. In fact, it is now five head-to-head battles without defeat for the Lilywhites over the Trotters.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The price on a home win looks poor value considering they have picked up just four points all season and three of them came on the opening-day. Bolton have points on the board but the expected goals data suggests they are riding their luck and the 3-0 hammering by Sheffield United adds weight to this claim. This is a Lancashire derby and pride will be at stake so it might need both sets of fans to be patient for goals. I think taking no goal before 30:00 and the second half to be the highest scoring 45 minutes makes most sense.

Preston North End Preview

The Lilywhites have won just one game this season and that came on the opening day of the season. They sit 20th in the Championship table with just four points which the suggested goals table feels is harsh and has them in 11th. At Deepdale, they have taken four points from their two this season and are without a defeat in five. Paul Gallagher and Alan Browne have both netted twice in their last five matches. Preston have the joint lowest attacking record in the division having netted just three goals during 2018/19. Four of the seven that they have conceded have come in the final 30 minutes.

Preston North End Team News

Alan Browne (hamstring) is a doubt, Ryan Ledsen is suspended while Billy Bodin (cruciate) and Sean Maguire (hamstring) are long-term absentees.

Bolton Wanderers Preview

The Trotters were joint-favourites for relegation but have made a good start taking ten points from their opening five fixtures. They sit as high as third in the league though the expected goals data feels this is false and has them as low as 21st. Away from the Macron Stadium, they have won each of their last two but before that had gone ten without success. Yann Wildschut has netted in both of his appearances on the road this season. In four of their five played so far this campaign Bolton have found themselves level going into the break. Will Buckley, Yann Wildschut and Josh Magennis have all bagged a brace each.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

They have no injuries or suspensions ahead of this fixture.
