Preston North End vs Bolton Wanderers Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Friday evening (19:45) game is live on SKY TV and is a Lancashire derby between two sides in different form. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Preston have lost four straight and lost their last match before the international break going down 3-0 at Portman Road to Ipswich. The expected goals data suggest that there was little to choose between the pair but the three points were claimed by the home side. Bolton continued their recent good form as they defeated Norwich 2-1 in their last outing. The goals that day came from Gary Madine and Adam Armstrong though the result probably flattered Wanderers. The last time these two sides met 2015/16 season with the Lillywhites claiming four points from the two meetings. Before that though the Trotters had won the three previous clashes between the pair.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Given the respective forms of both these sides then the visitors need to be backed here along with the draw in the double chance market. Preston are without a win in four and this includes defeats to Ipswich and Brentford while Bolton have taken points at Craven Cottage and the Stadium of Light in recent weeks and look capable of getting something here. Both teams to score also looks the play given that North-End have had defensive issues and even if they get a few players back they will come up against a visiting side who have netted nine times in their last five. The visitors have seen both teams score in each of their last five while five of the last seven for the hosts have seen the same.

Preston North End Preview

After a strong start to the season a run of four straight defeats and six without a victory the Lillywhites have dropped and find themselves 14th going into the international break. This marks the first of a decent run of games with just one of the next five against a top-half side which is Bristol City. At Deepdale, they have been solid with three victories, three draws and just two defeats though they are winless in their last four. They have shipped seven goals in their last three at their own ground while netting four times. The 19 goals they have scored this season has them in the bottom-half and they are led by Jordan Hugill with five goals. They have also conceded 19 goals which is mid-table defensive record but 15 of these have come in their last five when they have had an extensive injury list at the back.

Preston North End Team News

Sean Maguire (hamstring) is out until 2018 and joins an extensive injury list that also sees doubts over Tom Clarke, Greg Cunningham, Ben Davies, Tommy Spurr, Marnick Vermijl, Calum Woods and Josh Earl (both knee).

Bolton Wanderers Preview

A run of nine points from their last five fixtures has seen the Trotters rise off the bottom and into 23rd place. This still has them in the bottom three but with just one of their next six against teams in the top six they have a chance to climb the table. Away from the Macron Stadium, they are still seeking their first victory but they have drawn four times including their last two. After netting just once in their first four away ties they have netted four times in their last two. They have netted just 13 times which is the third worst in the league but in Gary Madine (two in two) and Sammy Ameobi (three in five) they have two players in good scoring form. Their defence has shipped 29 this season which is the fourth weakest record in the league and they have kept a clean sheet just once.

Bolton Wanderers Team News

Aaron Wilbraham (hip) and Jem Karacan (personal) will hope to return here while Adam Le Fondre (calf), Andrew Taylor (back), Felipe Morais (stomach) and Reece Burke (hip) are all unlikely to feature.
