Preston North End vs Barnsley Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from Deepdale features a Preston side who have made a good start to the season and a Barnsley side who have made an okay beginning to the campaign. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Preston picked up a useful point at the Riverside last time out as they held Middlesbrough to a goalless draw. The Lancashire side were a little unlucky not to take all three as they found home keeper Darren Randolph in good form. Barnsley surprised a few with a comfortable 3-0 home victory over Sunderland in their last league game. The goals were shared around the team with one each for Ike Ugbo, Harvey Barnes and George Moncur. It was the Tykes who got the better of their two meetings last season with the game at Oakwell ending 0-0 and then coming out on top 2-1 in their fixture at Deepdale. None of the three goalscorers from last season are still at their clubs.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I like Preston and think they will be fine this season but I feel they are being over-priced here and as such suggest a small bet on Barnsley/draw double chance. The Tykes have won two of their last three and in Hedges, Bradshaw and now McBurnie perhaps carry a stronger scoring threat than their hosts. In addition, take a small interest on them to net over 1.5 goals as they hit Sunderland for three in their last game.

Preston North End Preview

It has been a decent start to life under Alex Neil for North-End who from five games have two wins, two draws and just the one defeat. Three of the next four fixtures are at home so they will hope to continue this form. It is clear the Scotsman has concentrated on making them hard to beat with just three goals in total at both ends from five matches. Two of the three goals produced in their games have come from the penalty spot. At the deadline, Preston were quiet as they refused to accept a transfer request from Jordan Hugill and maintained the bulk of their squad that has made a promising start to the Championship campaign.

Barnsley Preview

After a slow start to the season with two defeats things have picked up for Barnsley who have won two of their last three. After five games, they sit in 15th place though this marks the start of a tricky run of fixtures with seven of their next nine coming against teams who featured in the top ten of the ante-post outright betting. Neutrals attending Tykes matches will find themselves entertained with four of the five going over 2.5 goals. Of the seven goals, they have netted this season three players have scored one each with Ryan Hedges and Tom Bradshaw grabbing a brace. The Yorkshire side could have got a coup before the transfer deadline getting in on loan striker Oli McBurnie from Swansea who has been a sub in all three of their Premier League fixtures so far and is highly-rated.
