Philadelphia Union vs Orlando City Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Philadelphia Union were involved in a 1-1 draw with San Jose Earthquakes at home. Magnus Eriksson opened the scoring for San Jose with a brilliant finish from the edge of the box. After incessant pressure from the home team, Alejandro Bedoya provided the equaliser just after half-time. San Jose were reduced to 10 men late in the game when Harold Cummings was sent off. Orlando City managed a sensational comeback to get a 3-2 win in the thriller against Portland Timbers. Portland were leading 2-0 going into the last 10 minutes after goals from Diego Valeri (penalty) and Bill Tuiloma. However, a seven-minute spell saw Orlando score three goals – through Christopher Mueller, Sacha Kljestan, and Dom Dwyer – and claim a sensational victory.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Orlando were thrashed 6-1 in their last visit to the Talen Energy Stadium last season. Memories of this defeat will certainly haunt Orlando, who have conceded at almost 2 goals per game this season. However, they are up against a Philadelphia outfit that has struggled to be decisive in front of goal. As a result, Jim Curtin’s men have come up with just one goal in the last three games. This might change for the visit of Orlando. I see value behind opting for a Philadelphia win along with a total goal to stand at over 2.5 goals.

David Accam has a sensational record against Orlando City after managing six goals in seven league appearances against this club – including a hat-trick for Chicago Fire last season. In this early part of the 2018 MLS campaign, Accam is yet to open the scoring for his new team. However, he has been at the end of some good opportunities and I would back Accam to score anytime.

Philadelphia Union Preview

Inability to break down opposition has led to a poor start to the campaign for Philadelphia, who sit just outside the play-off places after managing just a solitary win from the opening four league matches. There were positives from the game against San Jose, as Philadelphia came in with a reasonably dominant display to score the first goal in three games. However, lack of clinical finishing still appears to be the issue for Jim Curtin’s men. The next three matches look winnable for Philadelphia and a 75% win rate from this run is essential if Philadelphia are to keep in touch with the top six.

Philadelphia Union Team News

Richie Marquez (hernia) and Fabio Alves (ligament) are the players unavailable for Philadelphia Union.

Orlando City Preview

Orlando City fans have been treated to back-to-back thrillers, but the game against Portland Timbers will probably go down as one of the best comebacks from the team in recent memory. These two thrillers have helped Orlando recovered from a disappointing start to the campaign, as the club picked up only one point from the first three matches. The defence still looks far from convincing as only a handful of teams like Los Angeles FC and Portland have conceded more goals than Orlando have in the first few games.

Orlando City Team News

Oriol Rosell (knee), Mason Stajduhar (cancer), and Stefano Pinho (ankle) are the players unavailable for Jason Kreis.
