Pescara vs Bologna Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Pescara and Bologna will square off at the Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia on Sunday afternoon, with both teams looking to get back to winning ways in the Serie A. Pescara suffered another defeat last weekend, losing 2-1 on the road at Crotone. Massimo Oddo’s men were unlucky to lose the game, as they missed a penalty in that match and conceded the second goal just one minute after Hugo Campagnaro scored the equaliser. Meanwhile, Bologna were held to a goalless home draw by Empoli last time out, although they have created an amazing tally of 22 goalscoring chances. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Pescara Preview

Pescara are desperate for points, although they aren’t yet in a dangerous situation. The Delfini are second from the bottom in the Serie A table, but they are just three points behind safety and still have chances to salvage anything from this disappointing campaign. Pescara’s only triumph in their opening 16 league fixtures was actually a victory by default over Sassuolo towards the end of August, as the Neroverdi used an ineligible player. Pescara looked short going forward throughout this Serie A campaign, as they hold one of the worst offensive records in the division with just 13 goals scored in 16 rounds. Gianluca Caprari has been Pescara’s most prolific player in front of goal so far this season, as the 23-year-old striker is currently leading the club’s goalscoring charts with three goals in his 16 league appearances. Their home form has been a problem, as the Delfini have only picked up four points from their eight home fixtures in the Serie A so far this season. Furthermore, Pescara have failed to score in 50% of their home games this season. Also, Pescara are winless in their five home meetings with Bologna in all competitions, losing three and drawing twice in the process.

Bologna Preview

Bologna have also struggled for consistency in this Serie A campaign, but they find themselves in a much safer position. The Rossoblu currently stand in 16th place in the standings tied on 17 points with the 15th-placed Sassuolo, already eight points clear of the drop zone. Bologna have only won two of their last 12 games in all competitions, including a 4-0 home victory over Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia at the beginning of December. The Rossoblu picked up the majority of their points on home soil so far this season, but they have been awful on the road. They are winless in seven away league fixtures so far this season, picking up just three points in the process. The good news is that the Rossoblu are unbeaten in their five visits to the Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia, winning three and drawing twice in this term. Similar to their opponents, Bologna have also struggled to find the back of the net throughout this Serie A season, scoring just 14 goals in 16 rounds. Mattia Destro and Simone Verdi have both been in fine shape for Bologna this season, scoring four goals each. However, the latter will be sorely missed as he got injured in Bologna’s 0-1 home defeat against Fiorentina towards the end of October and is still on the sidelines due to injury.

Pescara Team News

Alexandru Ionut Mitrita and Michele Fornasier are both doubts, but Simone Pepe and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck are out through injury. In addition, Alberto Aquilani is missing through suspension. The good news is that Andrea Coda, Cristiano Biraghi and Alessio Di Massimo are all back in training.

Bologna Team News

Luca Rizzo, Sadiq Umar and Simone Verdi are all expected to be on the sidelines due to injury, while Filip Helander, Robert Acquafresca, Federico Di Francesco and Adam Masina are all doubts.

Betting Predictions and Tips

The second worst home side in the Serie A face the second worst away team, so it’s pretty difficult to predict the winner. However, seeing that both sides have been struggling in front of goal throughout this campaign, I’m expecting a low-scoring affair. I’m also backing Bologna to pick up at least one point here, as they are unbeaten in five visits to the Stadio Adriatico-Giovanni Cornacchia.
