Paris Saint Germain vs Lyon Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Paris Saint Germain and Lyon will square off at the Parc des Princes on Sunday night, with both teams looking to extend their unbeaten start to the new Ligue 1 season. Paris Saint Germain picked up a comfortable 1-5 victory on the road at Metz last weekend thanks to a brace from Edinson Cavani and three other goals from Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lucas. Meanwhile, Lyon won 2-1 at home over Guingamp, with Mariano Diaz and Nabil Fekir both getting on the scoresheet. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

For those looking at the ‘Full Time Result’ market, you won’t find any value in a home win as PSG are priced to 1/6 to win here despite the fact they are facing an in-form Lyon. Even if PSG have a much stronger squad than last season, I’m still expecting Lyon to get on the scoresheet in this one. Actually, the most recent four meetings between these two sides have seen goals at both ends of the field.

Paris Saint Germain Preview

Paris Saint Germain have started the season in fashion, having won seven of their seven games across all competitions. Many pundits are saying that the Ligue 1 is already over as a competition after PSG broke the World transfer record on Neymar and then went on to lure Monaco star at the Parc des Princes. Both players got on the scoresheet last weekend against Metz in Ligue 1 and they have also found the back of the net in PSG’s heavy 0-5 victory over Celtic in their Champions League midweek clash. Les Parisiens have won their opening five games in Ligue 1 and find themselves at the top of the table with maximum points to their name, three points more than the second-placed and reigning champions Monaco. PSG have already scored 19 goals in this early part of the season, including seven from their topscorer Edinson Cavani. Neymar has also been in excellent form since his arrival this summer, helping the team with four goals and four assists in his four league appearances. At home, PSG have won their three home games in Ligue 1 so far this season, scoring eleven goals in the process. In addition, Paris Saint Germain are undefeated in the last nine home meetings with Lyon across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in seven of these.

Paris Saint Germain Team News

Javier Pastore is a doubt, but Angel Di Maria is still out through a hamstring injury. In addition, Marco Verratti is missing through suspension.

Lyon Preview

On the other hand, Lyon have also kicked off the new Ligue 1 campaign brightly, winning three and drawing two of their opening five games. They have recorded back-to-back draws against Bordeaux and Nantes prior to their 2-1 home win over Guingamp last weekend. The bad news is that Lyon only managed a 1-1 draw on the road at Apollon in their Europa League midweek clash, with the hosts leveling the game in the 93rd minute. Les Gones currently sit in third position in the standings with eleven points under their belts after five rounds, one point behind the second-placed Monaco and four points adrift the current leaders and their Sunday’s opponents Paris Saint Germain. Similar to their Sunday’s opponents, Lyon have been scoring goals for fun in this early part of the season as they managed a decent tally of 11 goals in five games. The former Real Madrid striker Mariano Diaz and Nabil Fekir have both been in great shape throughout this early part of the campaign, having scored four goals each in five league appearances. The main issue is that Lyon haven’t been great on the road over the past two months, having won just once in their last four away games across all competitions.

Lyon Team News

Pape Cheikh Dlop Gueye is a doubt, but Amine Gouiri is back in training.
