Paris Saint Germain vs Bayern Munich Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Paris Saint Germain and Bayern Munich will square off at the Parc des Princes on Wednesday night, with both teams looking for their second victory of their Champions League group B. PSG picked up a comfortable 0-5 victory on the road at Celtic in their group opener a fortnight ago thanks to a brace from Edinson Cavani, two other goals from Neymar and Kylian Mbappe along with an own-goal from Mikael Lustig. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich won 3-0 at home over Anderlecht thanks to goals from Robert Lewandowski, Thiago Alcantara and Joshua Kimmich. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news, match stats and odds all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

It’s difficult to separate these two sides at the moment as both have plenty of quality within their ranks, but both only managed a draw in their domestic campaigns last weekend. PSG have been in fine shape on home soil throughout this early part of their Ligue 1 campaign, winning four games and scoring 13 goals in the process. In addition, PSG have won their three home meetings with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, conceding just once in this term. I think that PSG are more than capable to grab all three points in this one, but I also fancy Bayern Munich to get on the scoresheet as Lewandowski has been in great shape in this early part of the season.

Paris Saint Germain Preview

Paris Saint Germain’s eight-game winning streak across all competitions ended at the weekend as they only managed a nil-nil draw on the road at Montpellier in Ligue 1. The only good news is that PSG managed to keep another clean sheet at the weekend, which was their fourth in the last five games across all competitions. Les Parisiens have reached the Champions League quarter-finals in four consecutive seasons between 2013 and 2016, and suffered one of the most humiliating defeats at the hands of Barcelona in the round of 16 last year. They won 4-0 at home against the Blaugrana in the first leg, but succumbed to a 6-1 away loss in the second leg. However, the manner in which they swept Celtic aside in the opening round a fortnight ago made all of the competition’s contenders sit up and take notice. PSG should feel confident ahead of this game as they have only lost once in their last 24 home fixtures in the Champions League. Their recent home form has seen them win all of their four home games in Ligue 1, keeping three clean sheets in the process. Furthermore, Paris Saint Germain have won their three home meetings with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, conceding just once in this term. Edinson Cavani and Neymar have already bagged eleven goals and six assists between them domestically, and they also managed to get on the scoresheet against Celtic two weeks ago.

Paris Saint Germain Team News

Neymar is a doubt, but Javier Pastore is still missing through a calf injury. The good news is that Angel Di Maria is back in training.

Bayern Munich Preview

On the contrary, Bayern Munich showed some signs of weakness in the Bundesliga recently, registering two wins, one defeat and one draw in their last four league games. They are currently on a four-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, scoring at least two goals in each of these. Carlo Ancelotti’s men started their Champions League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 home win over Anderlecht on matchday one, but they will have a more difficult task when they travel to the French capital to take on their main Group B rivals, PSG, on Wednesday night. Bayern haven’t faced a French side since the 2012/13 group stage, and their last meeting with PSG has been in 2000/2001 season when they beat the Parisiens 2-1 on aggregate. They have won the most recent three visits to France, but their recent away form in the Champions League hasn’t been great. The Bavarian giants have only won two of their last seven away games in the Champions League, while losing four in the process. However, their recent away form has seen them win nine of their last ten away games across all competitions. Bayern Munich’s talisman, Robert Lewandowski, got on the scoresheet last time out against Anderlecht, and he has already scored seven goals in six Bundesliga appearances so far this season.

Bayern Munich Team News

Juan Bernat and Manuel Neuer are both missing through injury, while Thiago Alcantara and David Alaba are both doubts.
