Paris Saint Germain vs Amiens Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Having lost the title at the hands of Monaco last year, PSG will be looking to kick-off the new Ligue 1 campaign in fashion when they welcome the newly-promoted Amiens at the Parc des Princes on Saturday afternoon. Paris Saint Germain already kicked off their domestic season brightly, as they fought back from one-goal down to secure a 1-2 victory over Monaco in the French Super Cup a few days ago. Dani Alves, who came on a free transfer this summer, levelled the game in the 51st minute and then he delivered a great assist for Adrien Rabiot twelve minutes later. Meanwhile, the newly-promoted Amiens head into this tie on the back of a 2-1 loss at the hands of Troyes in a friendly game three days ago, with their consolation goal being scored by Charly Charrier with just 20 minutes to go. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Paris Saint Germain should have no problems in picking up a victory here, although there is not much value in this bet. For a better value, I’m backing PSG to score at least three goals here and to keep a clean sheet. Amiens have only won five of their last 13 away games across all competitions, conceding at least two goals in five of these.

Paris Saint Germain Preview

Paris Saint Germain managed a narrow 1-2 win over Monaco in the French Super Cup three days ago to lift their first trophy of the season. Prior to this win, PSG participated in the International Champions Cup where they have only won once in three games, beating Roma on penalties. PSG are hot favourites to win the Ligue 1 title this season as they managed to keep their best players at the club during the summer and even strengthened the squad a little bit, while the defending champions Monaco, the third-placed Nice and 4th-placed Lyon have all lost several key players in this term. PSG brought Yuri Berchiche from Real Sociedad for €16 million and lured Dani Alves on a free transfer from Juventus. Furthermore, Barcelona’s star Neymar has been heavily linked with a move to PSG for a ridiculous fee of €222 million. Even without Neymar, PSG still have one of the strongest squads in Europe with the likes of Angel Di Maria, Marco Verratti, Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva. PSG should have no problems in picking up a home victory here as they haven’t lost a single league game on home soil last term, registering 13 wins and six draws. PSG beat Amiens 0-1 in the only previous fixture between these two sides, in the 2007/08 Coupe de France Semi-finals.

Paris Saint Germain Team News

Hatem Ben Arfa is the only injury absentee for Paris Saint Germain ahead of this game.

Amiens Preview

On the other hand, Amiens got promoted to Ligue 1 thanks to a stoppage-time goal in the final round that carried them from sixth to second. Amiens have only won two of their seven friendlies throughout the pre-season and enter the fray on the back of a three-game losing streak. They have suffered consecutive narrow defeats at the hands of Nancy, Stoke City and Troyes while scoring just once in the process. Amiens are the bookies’ favourites to be relegated at the end of the season and that’s mainly because they don’t have enough quality to compete in the French top tier. Furthermore, Amiens have sold one of last season’s best players in the shape of Aboubakar Kamara, who moved to Fulham for a €6m deal. They haven’t used the money received on Kamara to strengthen the squad as they preferred to bring in seven new players on free transfers. Kamara has been Amiens’ top scorer in Ligue 2 last season with eleven goals under his belt, and he will definitely be sorely missed as Amiens have only brought Brighton Labeau from Monaco B as a replacement. Amiens were one of the best away teams in Ligue 2 last term, but things are different in Ligue 1 and I’m expecting them to struggle getting points away from home this season.

Amiens Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns for Amiens ahead of this trip.
