Orlando City vs Minnesota United Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Orlando City grabbed a late equaliser to secure a 1-1 draw with DC United at home. The first half produced two major setbacks for the hosts, who first conceded through Yamil Asad in the 32nd minute. Orlando went on to lose Victor to a red card the 41st minute. However, waves of attack finally paid dividends as Orlando equalised in the 90th minute through Stefano Pinho. Minnesota United had a poor start to the season after being beaten 3-2 by San Jose Earthquakes. Valeri Qazaishvili scored either side of a goal from Danny Hoesen to put the hosts 3-0 up by the 59th minute. Two goals in the last 10 minutes from Kevin Molino tried to spark an unlikely comeback from Minnesota.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Orlando made a couple of defensive mistakes that led to DC United having a strong first half, but Jason Kreis managed to motivate his players for a strong response in the second half. A similar performance this weekend will see Orlando get a comfortable win, as Minnesota have a very poor defence that often gifts goals to the opposition. I would back a win for Orlando City. Justin Meram was able to put in a shift against Minnesota. Even though he did not score, the 29-year-old created multiple opportunities for his teammates. He made four key passes in the 90 minutes. Meram may have been unable to score in his only game against Minnesota, but he is expected to get plenty of opportunities from Adrian Heath’s men. I would back Justin Meram to score anytime in the game.

Orlando City Preview

Orlando City were able to provide a lot of confidence that a repeat of 2017 can be avoided. The club had only picked up a draw in the opening game of the season, but the manner of the comeback – with 10 men on the pitch – was quite impressive. Orlando have to use this form to get wins, as it would only help the club reach the play-offs and further beyond. The departure of Cyle Larin has not put a major hole in the club’s attack, as Justin Meram put in an excellent performance last weekend.

Orlando City Team News

Pierre da Silva, Victor Giro, and Sacha Kljestan are unavailable due to suspension, while manager Jason Kreis will also be without Dominic Dwyer (thigh), Oriol Rosell, Josue Colman (thigh), Mason Stajduhar (cancer), Dillon Powers (ankle), and Cristian Higuita (calf) due to injuries.

Minnesota United Preview

The Minnesota team look far from convincing at the back and it was not surprising to see San Jose score three goals in an hour. Even though there were positives for Minnesota – like the late goals from Kevin Molino, the club will be desperate to get the likes of Sam Cronin and Christian Ramirez back to the first-team. Minnesota were able to finish a couple of places above the bottom, but the challenge for the team will be to try and get closer to the play-offs.

Minnesota United Team News

Sam Cronin (concussion), José Leiton, Abu Danladi (hamstring), and Cristian Ramirez (ankle) miss out on the game due to injuries.
