Olympiacos vs Sporting CP Match Prediction

By Marius Hrebenciuc

Olympiakos Piraeus and Sporting Lisbon will square off at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskaki on Tuesday night, with both teams looking to kick off their Champions League group stage campaign in a positive manner. Olympiakos managed to beat Partizan and Rijeka in the qualifying phase to reach this stage of the competition. Meanwhile, Sporting picked up a comfortable 5-0 aggregate win over FC Steaua Bucharest in the Champions League play-offs. Below we have our betting tips, predictions, team news and match stats all in our SBAT preview.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Both sides have enjoyed a good run of form recently, but I’m going with Olympiakos to win in this one as their home record across all competitions over the past few years has been amazing. They are a strong side in front of their own fans and even managed to beat the likes of Manchester United, Juventus, Atletico Madrid or Arsenal at home over the past two years.

Olympiakos Piraeus to win at 13/8

Both teams to score - No at 7/10

Olympiacos have conceeded only 4 goals in their last 10 games

Sporting CP saw over 1.5 goals in 8 out of their last 10 games played

Sporting CP are undefeated in all of their last 3 games against Olympiacos

Olympiacos Preview

Olympiakos have been dominating the Greek Super League over the past 20 years, as they have won 18 titles and finished as runner-ups on two occasions in this term. They kicked off their new Super League campaign in a similar manner, beating the likes of AEL Larissa and Lamia, and they should be able to pick up another victory on the road at Xanthi this weekend. Olympiakos won the Greek Super League title last season, but they still had to play two qualifying rounds in order to reach the Champions League group stage. This is the 18th time that Olympiakos have reached the group stage of the competition. Last season, Olympiakos were been beaten by Hapoel Beer Sheva in the third qualifying round, which was actually the first time that they missed out on the group stage since 2010/11. Olympiakos should feel confident ahead of this tie as their home form in the Champions League has been incredibly strong over the past six years. The Greeks have only lost four of their last 17 home games in the Champions League while winning eleven. Overall, Olympiakos have only lost two of their last 21 home games across all competitions.

Olympiacos Team News

There are no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game for Olympiakos.

Sporting CP Preview

Sporting Lisbon, on the other hand, finished third in the Primeira Liga last season and needed to beat FC Steaua Bucharest 5-1 on aggregate in the Champions League play-offs to reach the group stage of the competition. This means that Sporting have now reached the Champions League group stage for the third time in four years. Last season, the Portuguese club finished at the bottom of their group behind Borussia Dortmund, Real Madrid, and Legia Warszawa. Actually, Sporting were on a five-game winless streak in the Champions League prior to their 1-5 victory over Steaua in Bucharest a fortnight ago. Sporting are currently on a good run of form, having won six and draw one of their last seven games across all competitions. The most impressive fact is that Sporting have kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven competitive games. The bad news is that Sporting Lisbon are winless in their last ten away games in the Champions League, having lost seven in the process. However, their recent away form across all competitions have seen them win nine of their last 13 away games. Bas Dost, Bruno Fernandes, and Gelson Martins have all enjoyed a decent start to the new Primeira Liga season, scoring three goals each.

Sporting CP Team News

Oriol Rosell is the only injury absentee for Sporting ahead of this game.
