Nottingham Forest vs Preston North End Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Tuesday evening (19:45) Championship fixture features two sides in the middle-third of the table. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Nottingham Forest suffered a disappointing 2-1 FA Cup Fourth Round defeat to Hull at the weekend with a late Apostolos Vellios goal a mere consolation effort. In the league, they produced an excellent performance to defeat Wolves 2-0 thanks to a goal each from Kieran Dowell and Ben Osborn.

Preston also got knocked out of the FA Cup at the weekend as they suffered a 1-0 defeat away to Sheffield United. Their last league fixture came on January 20th where they were held 1-1 at home by Birmingham despite Ben Davies giving them an early lead.

The reverse fixture on December 23rd at Deepdale ended in a 1-1 draw with Ben Brereton netting for Forest and Paul Huntington for North-End. It was the third consecutive head-to-head battle that finished all-square.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Bookmakers are having trouble splitting the pair and it is hard to argue with this assessment and for those looking for a play on the match market the draw seems the most likely though I will look elsewhere for my bets.

Forest have scored just 25% of their goals in the first 30 minutes and North-End just 18% so take NO goal to be scored before 32:00. On a similar vein with 66% of the Lilywhites goals having come in the second 45 minutes backing this to be their highest scoring half looks worth a little interest.

Nottingham Forest Preview

Victory over Wolves in their previous Championship fixture put to an end a run of six without a win in the league. Forest are stuck in mid-table ten points above the drop zone and 14 from the play-offs.

At the City Ground, they have lost their last three in the league and failed to score in each of these. Just two of their last six and three of their last eight in the Championship in front of their own fans have gone over 2.5 goals.

None of the last five in the second-tier for Nottingham Forest have seen both teams find the back of the net. Just 18 of the 43 goals the Tricky Trees have conceded this season have come at their own ground.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Daryl Murphy (rib) and Jamie Ward (hamstring) are doubts while Liam Bridcutt is suspended.

Preston North End Preview

It has been mixed bag of late for North-End with one victory, four draws and one defeat from their last six. They are in 11th place and no side has drawn as many games as the 12 they have this season.

Away from Deepdale, they have won three and drawn of their last six in the league and are unbeaten since the start of November. They have won games at Cardiff and Bristol City in this spell but also dropped points at Barnsley and Millwall.

Just one of the last seven for the Lillywhites in the league and two of the last 12 have gone over 2.5 goals. Around two-thirds of their league goals this season have come in the second 45 minutes.

Preston North End Team News

Ben Davies and Sean Maguire (both hamstring) are doubts for this game.
