Nottingham Forest vs Millwall Match Prediction

Nottingham Forest v Millwall Betting Tips & Predictions

Friday evening (19:45) sees the return of the English Football League (yes already) and this is one of two games on Friday to kick-start the season. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. This fixture features two sides that bookmakers think will struggle this season in the Championship. Forest are priced to have a bottom-half finish following their relegation fight last season while newly promoted Millwall are tipped by bookies to be in the drop zone. The last time these sides met came in the League Cup last season at the New Den and it was won by Forest 2-1. The visitors took the lead through Jamie Paterson before Shaun Williams levelled but three minutes from time Lars Veldwijk gave the East Midlands side victory. The Lions though can take heart from the fact they have won on each of their last two visits to the City Ground.

Betting Tips & Predictions

I think Forest are the value call here because of the poor away form shown by Millwall last season. The Lions lost nine on the road last season and before the last day of the season had won just one of their eight previous road trips. The East Midlands outfit have had a decent pre-season and look the selection here in what should be a good-sized crowd at the City Ground. Millwall are capable of scoring and I would not put anyone of YES in the both teams to score market. I will try my hand though at finding who that scorer will be for the Lions and Jed Wallace is my selection. He should play in one of the three spots behind front-man Tom Elliott and was on a few set-pieces in their last pre-season friendly with Stevenage whose keeper was in inspired form. Take him to be first goalscorer with each-way value to be found if he nets at any point of the match.

Nottingham Forest Preview

A new owner and a full summer for Mark Warburton means Forest fans will enter this season full of optimism and hope after scrambling to 21st last season just avoiding the drop. After keeping them up Mark Warburton will be the man in the dugout and after a disappointing spell at Rangers will hope to do for Forest what he did during his spell at Brentford (establish them as a strong top-half side). Daryl Murphy and Barrie McKay are the big new additions for the season with Kieran Dowell set to join on-loan from Everton for the season. On the flip-side have lost key striker Britt Assombalonga though the big money move will allow them to re-shape their squad. One of the keys to an improved season must be to improve their defence as only relegated Rotherham shipped more goals than them last season. The Tricky Trees were a strong side at home with a record reflective more of a top-half side losing just three of their last 11 in front of their own fans.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Stephen Henderson is unlikely to feature here as the keeper is still recovering from an Achilles tendon injury.

Millwall Preview

Following play-off success at Wembley and promotion from League One Millwall will look for a strong team spirit and good organization to establish themselves this season as a Championship side. Neil Harris is a legend at the club but some outsiders are not convinced by him at this level. They have done well this summer bring in some good players from League One on free transfers and signing a couple of useful looking players from Wolves. They have kept their key players from last season including front-man Lee Gregory. On the road, the Lions only managed seven victories last season which is something they must improve upon if they are to avoid relegation. They also shipped 40 away goals which was one of the highest numbers in League One last season though the 32 they netted was among the highest.

Millwall Team News

Ryan Tunnicliffe will not be available as he works on his fitness after missing much of pre-season.
