Nottingham Forest vs Leeds United Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This New Year’s Day (15:00) fixture the league leaders on the road to the team in tenth in the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Nottingham Forest saw their winless run stretched to five and went down to third defeat of these with a 1-0 loss at Millwall last time out. A ninth minute goal proved the difference between the two sides in a game the Lions just about did enough to claim victory.

Leeds saw their seven game winless run come to an end last time as they went down 2-0 at home to Hull. They saw more of the ball but it was the Tigers who were deserved winners according to the expected goals data.

The reverse fixture was on the 27th October at Elland Road and it finished honours even with a 1-1 draw. Jack Robinson put the East Midlands outfit ahead of 11 minutes but from then on it was all Leeds and an 82nd minute Kemar Roofe equalizer was the least they deserved.

Betting Tips and Predictions

It is hard to argue with the odds on offer that make Leeds the favourite as the season has shown they are better team than Forest. The Tricky Trees have good players though and while the rumours are they have fallen out with their manager with the transfer window opening it will not take much to motivate them.

Both teams have scored at least two-thirds of their goals after the interval and I like the second 45 minute to be the highest scoring. Forest have been involved in a few crazy finishes of late (5-5 with Villa, 3-3 with Norwich) so take the second-half to have over 1.5 goals.

Nottingham Forest Preview

The Tricky Trees have taken just two points from their last five and have slid down to tenth in the table. With the January transfer window opening they will be looking to get some goalscoring help for Lewis Grabban who has 14 with no other player close.

At the City Ground, the East Midlands outfit have lost their last two and by the same 1-0 scoreline. The last five Championship matches at their own places have produced a combined five goals.

Just two of the last 11 Nottingham Forest have played have gone over 2.5 goals with four of the last five going under 1.5. Just one of their last six and two of their last ten have seen both teams score.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Tobias Figueiredo (leg) is a doubt while Michael Dawson (hamstring), Hilel Soudani and Juan Rafael Fuentes (both knee) are a few weeks from a return. Sam Byram (ankle) is a long-term absentee.

Leeds United Preview

The Whites did lose last time but a loss for rivals Norwich means they were able to keep their three point lead at the top. They might look to strengthen in the transfer window with no real major holes a few extra squad players to cover injuries should be the target.

Away from Elland Road, the Yorkshire outfit have won three straight and lost just twice all season. Pablo Hernandez has netted a single goal in three of his five appearances on the road this season.

Leeds have seen two of their last three and three of their last five feature both teams finding the back of the net. Two of the last three games they have played have gone over 4.5 goals and just one of their last five has gone under 1.5.

Leeds United Team News

Patrick Bamford, Izzy Brown, Liam Cooper (all knee) and Stuart Dallas (foot) are doubts while Gaetano Berardi (hamstring) and Conor Shaughnessy (muscle) are out.
