Nottingham Forest vs Ipswich Town Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture has little on the line as it features two sides stuck in mid-table.  Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Nottingham Forest stretched their losing run to three-games in midweek as they suffered a 1-0 home loss to Brentford.  Forest can consider themselves a little unlucky as the expected goals data shows they were marginally the better team.

Ipswich ended their six-game winless run with a 1-0 victory over Barnsley in midweek.  Jonas Knudsen got the only goal in a match that also was followed by the resignation of boss Mick McCarthy after almost six years at the club.

The reverse fixture came at the start of December and was won 4-2 by the Suffolk side in front of their own fans.  Callum Connolly, Dominic Iorfa, Martyn Waghorn and Bersant Celina grabbed one each for Town while Kieran Dowell and Tyler Walker bagged for Forest.

Betting Tips and Predictions

This looks a fixture not to get too heavily involved in as you have a Forest side without a goal in six against an Ipswich side who saw their manager leave in midweek and it is hard to know where the motivation lies for both.

Neither side are blessed with goalscorers so back no goal before 31:00 and the game to be level at half-time in what should be a cagey start.

Nottingham Forest Preview

The Tricky Trees have lost their last three and are without a victory in their last six league games.  With a seven-point gap and four places between them and the bottom it would take an unlikely sequence of results for them to go down.

At the City Ground, they have lost just one of their last four though they have also won just one of their last nine.  The 20 home goals they have scored this season is the fourth lowest in the division.

It is now six league matches in a row without finding the back of the net for Nottingham Forest.  None of the last six and just three of the last 18 have seen both teams manage to score.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Ashkan Dejagh (knee), Matty Cash, Joe Worrall (both unknown), Daryl Murphy (calf), Jack Hobbs (back), Chris Cohen (knee), David Vaughan (unknown) and Jamie Ward (hamstring) are doubts.

Ipswich Town Preview

It is just five points from their last seven fixtures for the Tractor Boys with the interest being focused on off the pitch rather than on it.  Bryan Krug is in caretaker charge but Danny Cowley, Paul Hurst and Tony Mowbray are the names in the frame to be permanent boss.

Away from Portman Road, they have lost each of their last three and all by the same scoreline of 1-0.  Just one of the last eight that they have played on the road has gone over 2.5 goals.

70% of the league goals that Ipswich have scored this season have come in the second-half with 38% in the final 30 minutes.  They have lost just two of their nine previous against Nottingham Forest.

Ipswich Town Team News

Dominic Iorfa (thigh), Adam Webster, Tom Adeyemi, Teddy Bishop (all hamstring) and Dean Gerken (hip) are doubts.  Luke Chambers (rib), David McGoldrick (groin), Joe Garner (skull), Emyr Huws and Andre Dozzell (both knee) are unlikely to feature again this season.
