Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) fixture is an important one in the promotion race as it features the side in ninth playing host to the team in seventh. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Nottingham Forest went down 2-0 to Reading last time out in a fixture that saw them have Daniel Fox and Tendayi Darkwa dismissed. The result came under a caretaker manager following the sacking of Aitor Karanka on Friday with club legend Martin O’Neill taking over as boss.

Bristol City continued their quiet climb up the table with a fourth straight victory in all competitions as they defeated Bolton 2-1. Kasey Palmer had a great debut bagging one for himself and making one for Matty Taylor to give the Robins a deserved three points.

The reverse fixture came on the opening day of the season at Ashton Gate and ended in a 1-1 draw with a goal for Andreas Weimann and Daryl Murphy. The expected goals data that day suggests the draw was a fair reflection of a close game that Forest just shaded.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Nottingham Forest are slight favourites to win here by virtue of their home advantage though I would not be backing them. Bristol City are difficult opponents and have had some recent road success so cannot be under-estimated.

I don’t know how Forest will react to the change in the dugout so I will remove them from the equation and focus my bets on the Robins. They have seven from their last four on the road so both teams to score looks the obvious call. I also like Kasey Palmer to net at any time as he looks in line for a start after an impressive off the bench cameo last time out that saw him score one and create one.

Nottingham Forest Preview

The Tricky Trees will hope that Martin O’Neill can push them into the play-offs as inherits a side in ninth place just four off Derby. He starts with three of his next four at the City Ground which is a helpful beginning.

At the City Ground, the East Midlands outfit have been a mixed bag of late with three wins, two draws and three defeats from their last eight. Just one of their last six has seen both teams net and that came last time in a 4-2 defeat of Leeds.

Nottingham Forest have failed to find the back of the net in five of their last seven in the league and six of eight in all competitions. The defence has also struggled failing to keep a clean sheet in their last six.

Nottingham Forest Team News

Daniel Fox and Tendayi Darkwa will miss the game through suspension while Michael Hefle (Achilles), Tobias Figueiredo (leg) and Michael Dawson (hamstring) are doubts, Hilel Soudani, Juan Rafael Fuentes (both knee) and Sam Byram (ankle) are long-term absentees.

Bristol City Preview

Three straight wins and nine league matches undefeated has moved the Robins to seventh and just outside the top six. They are just two off Derby in sixth and they don’t face a top six side until February 23rd when they travel to Norwich.

Away from Ashton Gate, City are unbeaten in four winning three of these and picking up a point at Derby. Famara Diedhiou has three in his last four on the road while Jamie Paterson has two in his last four.

Bristol City have seen each of their last two in the Championship and four of their last five have exactly two or three goals. Their defence has looked good of late shipping just three times in the last five.

Bristol City Team News

Eros Pisano (adductor) and Marley Watkins (leg) are doubts while Korey Smith and Liam Walsh (both knee) are long-term absentees.
