Norwich City vs Sheffield Wednesday Match Prediction

By Richard McTiernan

This Saturday evening (17:30) game is live on SKY TV and features two sides who were hoping to be among the promotion hopefuls but currently find themselves adrift of the play-off spots. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Norwich continued their struggles with a 3-1 loss at the Cardiff City Stadium last time out in a game they took the lead in. Marco Stiepermann put them ahead just before half-time though they can have few complains as Cardiff ran rampant in the second-half to pick up three deserved points. Sheffield Wednesday managed their fourth straight draw in their last game as they were held at home 2-2 by Hull.  A 70th and 85th-minute strike put them level and then ahead but an injury-time goal denied them all three points. The two meetings between these sides last season saw the Yorkshire side take four points with a comprehensive 5-1 home victory and a goalless draw at Carrow Road. Jordan Rhodes got a brace in that game last season and will hope to build on his two league goals this season.

Betting Tips and Predictions

The draw looks the obvious runner here as the visitors have drawn each of their last four and the Canaries have drawn five of their last seven. I think though you can get some extra value by adding Wednesday and the draw double chance market which given the form of both sides seems a sensible solution. Gary Hooper netted a brace last time out and will be hungry to do well here against a Norwich side where he feels he was not given a fair chance to prove himself.  He looks the selection here in the goalscorer markets.

Norwich City Preview

The Canaries are on a poor run of form that has seen them pick up just two points from their last seven fixtures and drop down to 16th. None of their next six are against sides in the top six though they do face sides above them in each of their next three. At Carrow Road, it is now seven without a victory though five of these matches have ended all-square. In four of their last five at home both teams have scored though just one of the last nine has gone over 2.5 goals. The East Anglian are struggling for goals this season with a third lowest 18 scored and just seven from their last nine. Each of the last six they have conceded have come in the second-half and 11 of last 12 in the last hour of a tie.

Norwich City Team News

Steven Naismith (groin), Marley Watkins (hip) and James Husband (groin) are all doubts while Matt Jarvis (ankle), Alex Tettey (calf) and Jamal Lewis (knee) are closing in on returns. Remi Matthews (shin) and Louis Thompson (Achilles) are long-term absentees.

Sheffield Wednesday Preview

It is now seven games unbeaten for the Owls but four draws from the last five means they are stuck in mid-table. On paper this is the second easiest upcoming fixture Wednesday have with seven of their next nine against teams in the top 14 (the other is against Burton). Away from Hillsborough, they have taken five points from their last three which includes a victory at Villa Park and draws with Ipswich and Reading. Seven of their ten on their travels this season have gone under 2.5 goals. Gary Hooper has ten goals for Wednesday this season in the league and has three in the last three. Six of the last seven goals in games involving the Yorkshire side have come in the second-half.

Sheffield Wednesday Team News

Tom Lees (thigh) and Daniel Pudil (hamstring) are doubts while Sam Hutchinson, Fernando Forestieri (both knee) and George Boyd (shoulder) are out until the new year.
