Norwich City vs Birmingham City Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Saturday afternoon (15:00) game from Carrow Road features two sides in need of the points after slow Championship starts. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. Norwich would have welcomed the break after last time out suffering a disappointing 4-0 loss to Millwall. The Canaries saw a lot of the ball and had more shots on target but were all at sea at the back to allow the Lions to hit them for four. Birmingham also lost last time as they suffered a home defeat to Reading. It finished 2-0 to the Royals which was probably harsh on the hosts who saw more of the ball but lacked a cutting edge. Four of the last six meetings between the pair have ended in draws but the two fixtures last season did not. These games were won by the home teams with the East Anglian outfit winning 2-0 at Carrow Road and the second city side won 3-0 in front of their own fans thanks to a Clayton Donaldson brace.

Betting Tips and Predictions

both these sides have lost back-to-back games so will be keen to back on track with a victory here. Norwich are the short-priced favourites and this is not a price that appeals. The Canaries are shipping the goals and I think the Blues look better backed to score over 1.5 goals than to win the game as this bet pays out if they do it even if Norwich get among the goals themselves which they are well capable of doing. Adams, Gallagher, Boga, Jota, Jutkiewicz and Vassell give them a wealth of forward options which would be the envy of any side in the division. The East Anglian outfit tend to be ship early when they do ship so I would suggest taking the time of the first Birmingham goal to come before 65:00.

Norwich City Preview

It has not been a great start to life under Daniel Farke for the Canaries who have one win, one draw and three defeats from their first five fixtures. The German is already under pressure and knows his side must start climbing that table soon. The East Anglian outfit have been a mess at the back shipping more than anyone (12 goals) in the division with eight of these coming in the last two. They look more comfortable going forward with six goals scored with Nelson Oliveira bagging three of these. Norwich moved to strengthen at the back by signing Grant Hanley from Newcastle. The Scottish defender is a no-nonsense figure at the back and could be just what the Canaries need with an extra bonus being that the East Anglian side held on to in-demand forward Nelson Oliveira.

Norwich City Team News

Tim Klose (leg) and Cameron Jerome (ankle) are doubts while Louis Thompson (hip), Matt Jarvis (also hip), Alex Pritchard (ankle) and Jamal Lewis (knee) are out long-term.

Birmingham City Preview

It has been a disappointing campaign so far for Birmingham with just one win, one draw and three defeats from their opening five games. Three of their next four fixtures are on the road but Redknapp will be confident after splashing the clash in recent weeks. An issue for Birmingham this season has been a lack of goals with just three netted from five however they spent on several forwards at the deadline to rectify this. At the other end, four goals conceded is indication of a strong defence that has already kept two clean sheets. At the transfer deadline, Harry Redknapp worked his magic once again bringing in five new players including a triple transfer of players from Brentford with Maxime Colin, Harlee Dean and Jota switching to the Blues whilst also securing the loan moves of Sam Gallagher and Jeremie Boga.

Birmingham City Team News

Che Adams (hamstring) is a doubt while Carl Jenkinson (dislocated shoulder) and Isaac Vassell (hamstring) are unlikely to feature.
