Newcastle United vs Watford Match Prediction

By Dean Carr

Newcastle United host Watford at St. James’ Park on 25/11/17 as Rafa Benitez’s side look to get back on track in the Premier League. Newcastle were thrashed 4-1 at Manchester United last weekend, as Watford returned to winning ways with a 2-0 win at Watford. Read on for a full match preview complete with betting tips and predictions.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Rafa Benitez’s men have had a real drop off in recent weeks, but I’m not anticipating that to continue here. Watford’s hot start away from home has dwindled and I can see the home side picking up the three points here.

Newcastle United Preview

Manchester United eventually made light work of Rafa Benitez’s men at Old Trafford last weekend, coming from a goal down as Newcastle threatened an early shock. Dwight Gayle scored his first Premier League goal of the season to send the travelling fans wild, though they weren’t celebrating by the time half-time arrived as Anthony Martial and Chris Smalling both struck for the hosts. Paul Pogba marked his return to first-team action with a goal in the second half, before Romelu Lukaku ended his lengthy scoring drought with United’s fourth 20 minutes from time. As such, Newcastle now come into this fixture off the back of three consecutive Premier League defeats - the first time they have lost that number of consecutive matches this season. The Magpies will also be looking to respond to a home defeat suffered at the hands of Bournemouth in their last outing, having won three and drawn one of their four games before then. Those recent defeats have seen the team slip into the bottom half of the table, sitting 11th after 12 games and they will be relatively content with the start to the season they have made. The majority of their points will be earned at home this season and this is a game they will certainly target as one they should get points from.

Newcastle United Team News

Jamaal Lascelles (ankle), Mikel Merino (back) and Christian Atsu (thigh) are all ruled out for Newcastle here. Paul Dummett (hamstring) and Massadio Haidara (knee).

Watford Preview

Watford did not succumb to the new manager effect as they inflicted a debut defeat on David Moyes, securing a 2-0 win over West Ham United. Will Hughes has had to be patient in earning his opportunity to play at Watford but he took it in style against the Hammers, scoring the opening goal with his first shot in the Premier League after 11 minutes. Unlike Hughes, forward Richarlison has been a fixture in this Watford side and he demonstrated why by scoring the team’s second goal after 64 minutes. It may not have been a vintage performance from the Hornets, but the win saw them return to 8th in the Premier League table and, more importantly, brought to an end their three-match losing streak. The continuing speculation regarding Everton’s interest in Marco Silva seems to have somewhat disrupted the rhythm the team had put together, as the club look to keep hold of their Portuguese boss. After an incredible start to the season away from home, winning their first three away from home, they are now without a win in three on the road, though they have scored two goals in every game they have played in away.

Watford Team News

Younes Kaboul (hamstring), Nathaniel Chalobah and Isaac Success (both knee) are all unlikely to be fit for this weekend. Troy Deeney and Craig Cathcart are both unavailable.
