Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Newcastle United look to achieve European qualification in the upcoming Premier League campaign but Rafa Benitez has had a difficult summer. The loss of some key players has been offset by his ability to bring in some important players like Kennedy and Yoshinori Muto. Last season, Newcastle finished in the 10th place but will be hoping for a top six push this time around. Tottenham have been able to finish in the top three for three consecutive campaigns but Mauricio Pochettino knows that preserving this position – or even building on the same – will be extremely difficult.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Spurs were able to complete a double over Newcastle last season, but they travel to St James’ Park well aware about the immense support that the club enjoys on this ground. Spurs had one of the best away records last season but pre-season friendly results have not been impressive enough. Newcastle have been strengthened quite substantially during the summer and I expect the hosts to put up plenty of fight. Despite managing just two wins over Spurs in the last six home matches, I would go with a draw for Newcastle.

Spurs and Newcastle have been involved in some exciting matches over the years but both games in the 2017-18 campaign finished with less than 2.5 goals. Spurs are expected to retain their defensive solidarity even if Toby Alderweireld leaves the club for Manchester United. I would back under 2.5 goals in the match.

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle have had a decent run in pre-season – apart from the heavy defeat against Braga – and the Geordies have reason to be confident about their team’s fortunes in the upcoming campaign. Newcastle were able to receive a substantial transfer fee for Aleksandar Mitrovic and it has a lot of the club to invest in a string of players who could turn out to be successful. Benitez has also brought in Premier League experience with Salomon Rondon of West Brom.

Newcastle United Team News

Florian Lejeune (cruciate ligament) is the only serious concern for Newcastle.

Tottenham Hotspur Preview

Spurs have been viewed as potential title candidates in the last few seasons, but Mauricio Pochettino has been left disappointed with the summer transfer activity. Even though Spurs have been able to retain stars like Dele Alli and Harry Kane, the lack of any arrivals still leaves the squad strength lower than the likes of Manchester City, United, or Liverpool. Spurs continue to possess one of the best starting line-ups in the division but it will be interesting to see if the club are able to cope injuries to key players over a long and hard campaign.

Tottenham Hotspur Team News

Pochettino is without several key players ahead of this match, as Victor Wanyama (knee), Harry Winks (ankle), and Tashan Oakley-Boothe (knock) are unavailable due to injuries. Erik Lamela (muscle) and Moussa Sissoko (hamstring) are also unavailable due to injuries.
