Newcastle United vs Queens Park Rangers Match Prediction

By Charlotte Louise Bushell

Two of the most experienced managers in the Championship do battle Wednesday evening (19:45) as Rafa Benitez and his Newcastle side host Ian Holloway and his QPR team. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Newcastle were made to pay for making nine changes to their side for the FA Cup Fourth round when they went down 3-0 to Oxford on Saturday. It is clear the league is the priority for them, and they won 4-0 last time out seeing off Rotherham thanks to two goals from Matt Ritchie and one each from Daryl Murphy and Ayoze Perez.

QPR lost 2-1 at home to Burton last time out in a game they would have fancied themselves to win. They were slow out of the blocks going 2-0 down before a Conor Washington strike gave them hope of a comeback but Burton held firm.
The Magpies have won five of the last six meetings between the duo including a comprehensive 6-0 victory at Loftus Road earlier in the season. Jonjo Shelvey netted twice while Ayoze Perez, Ciaran Clark, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Grant Henley all got one each.

Newcastle United Preview

Back-to-back wins have moved to ease some nerves at Newcastle who were in a mini-slump by their standards with two defeats in three games. The gap to third was six points going into the midweek fixtures with the North-Eastern side having a game in hand.
The Magpies have scored at least three goals in six of their last nine at home though have kept just three clean sheets in the same fixtures. Newcastle to be ahead at half-time and then again at full-time would have paid in seven of their last ten on their own ground.
In the absence of Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie has netted five times in their last three home games while Daryl Murphy has also started firing grabbing three goals in the last four.

QPR Preview

Defeat at home to Burton last time out put an end to a good run of form that saw QPR go four games unbeaten. They now sit 17th in the table, but they do have an eight-point gap over Wigan who are currently in 22nd. It is back-to-back away wins for QPR who have seen off Reading and Wolves in recent road trips. The Hoops are struggling for goals on their travels netting just four times in their last seven away fixtures. The last five QPR matches have seen a goal in the first thirty minutes with the London side being behind at half-time in seven of 13 away ties played this season.

YES both teams to score here

Newcastle United Team News

Dwight Gayle (hamstring) and Jack Colback (illness) are rated day-to-day while Vurnon Anita (ankle) and Rolando Aarons (broken toe) are long-term absentees. Chancel Mbema Manglu and Mo Diame are back from the Africa Cup of Nations though this game may come too soon for them. Christian Atsu though is still away in Africa.

QPR Team News

Luke Freeman may come straight into the side following the completion of his move from Bristol City. QPR will likely be without Grant Hall (achilles) and Idrissa Sylla (hamstring) who injured themselves in the match with Burton. They join Jordan Cousins (unknown), Yeni N’Gbakoto (ankle), Conor Hudnott (shoulder), Jack Robinson (hamstring) and Steven Caulker (hip) on the injured list.

Betting Predictions and Tips

Newcastle are not keeping many clean sheets recently (just one in their last ten in all competitions) while QPR have found the net in each of their last six so the YES in the both teams to score market looks worth a little interest.

If, like me, you think Newcastle should win this game then also take both teams to score and the Magpies to win the game in a double.
