Newcastle United vs Manchester United Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Newcastle United were involved in yet another stalemate, as the team picked up a 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Rafa Benitez saw his team open the scoring in the 22nd minute through Mohamed Diame. The set-piece goal was cancelled out by Luka Milivojevic in the 55th minute. Manchester United quickly overcame the loss against Spurs by getting a 2-0 home win over Huddersfield Town. Romelu Lukaku came up with the opening goal in the second half to justify United’s dominance, while Alexis Sanchez made the game safe with his first goal for the club a few minutes later.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Newcastle are aiming for a first win over Manchester United since 2013. The Red Devils have been able to pick up four wins in six meetings since then. Newcastle have drawn three consecutive matches at the St James’ Park, while their last home win was back in October. Despite United not being at their best on the road, the loss against Spurs will have been a wake-up call for the team. United are likely to slip up in this match, and I would back an away win. United have scored more than 1.5 goals in four out of the last six away matches. The Red Devils have also been able to hit this figure in three out of the last four visits to St James’ Park. Even with Newcastle being careful at the back, I would back United to score over 1.5 goals.

Manchester United win – 4/6

Manchester United to score over 1.5 goals – 4/5

Manchester United scored over 2.5 goals in 6 out of their last 10 games played against Newcastle United

Newcastle United Preview

Newcastle remain in huge danger of being sucked into the bottom three, as the club have simply been unable to finish off opponents. Despite having excellent patches in a game, Newcastle have simply not been consistent enough to end the winless run. Since getting the away victory over Stoke City on New Year’s Day, Newcastle have been able to claim a solitary victory over lower league Luton Town in the FA Cup. The teams managed by Rafa Benitez do tend to be quite defensive, but the Geordies would have been hoping for more than just 24 goals in 26 games this season. Joselu leads the scoring charts at Newcastle with four goals.

Newcastle United Team News

Rafa Benitez will be without Joselu (virus), Islam Slimani (thigh), and Ciaran Clark (knee) due to injuries.

Manchester United Preview

The loss against Tottenham did not affect Manchester United a lot. The results during the weekend will have provided Jose Mourinho with a glimmer of hope about the league title. Even though the Portuguese has conceded the title to Manchester City, United have been able to close the gap down to 13 points after the weekend results. United now prepare for a run of three consecutive matches in all competitions. This run could hold a key towards the shape of the 2017-18 campaign for the Red Devils, who have the best defence in the Premier League after conceding only 18 goals. Romelu Lukaku is now up to 12 goals for the campaign.

Manchester United Team News

Zlatan Ibrahimovic (hamstring), Daley Blind (ankle), Eric Bailly (ankle), Marouane Fellaini (meniscus), Phil Jones (illness), and Marcus Rashford (leg) are the players missing from action for Jose Mourinho.
