Betting Tips and Predictions

Newcastle have performed well at home in recent weeks, but were unable to overcome Spurs when they visited on the opening day. There’s an element of pressure on Liverpool to win here and I’m expecting them to live up to expectations and take three points here.

Newcastle United Preview

Rafa Benitez saw his side’s three-match win streak come to an end away to fellow promoted side Brighton and Hove Albion last Sunday, after a toothless display resulted in a 1-0 win for the Seagulls. Tomer Hemed scored the game’s only goal in the 51st minute, as Dale Stephens headed Pascal Gross’ free-kick across the face of the goal, allowing Hemed to finish smartly from close-range. Given their solidity in recent weeks, Benitez will have been particularly disappointed that his team conceded via a set piece and even more so at the fact they were unable to find a way past Matt Ryan in the Brighton goal. Judging by the attacking options at the disposal of Benitez, it seems Newcastle will most likely be relying on their defensive shape to keep them in games and then look to score on the break, as opposed to regularly blowing teams away. Newcastle have failed to score in three of their six Premier League games so far this season, but have won two in a row at St. James’ Park heading into a fixture where historically goals have flown in for fun at both ends.

Newcastle United Team News

Aleksandr Mitrovic is available once again after serving his suspension. Left-backs Paul Dummett (hamstring) and Massadio Haidara (knee) are both ruled out once again.

Liverpool Preview

Jurgen Klopp still probably won’t know how his side didn’t win away to Spartak Moscow in midweek as the Russian champions managed to hold on to a 1-1 draw. Fernando’s free-kick put Spartak ahead in the 23rd minute - with questions being asked of Reds keeper Loris Karius - but Philippe Coutinho drew Liverpool level, exchanging passes with Sadio Mane before producing a lethal finish. From there, Liverpool dominated their opponents and missed a number of gilt-edged opportunities to win the game, but couldn’t produce the decisive finish as they were forced to settle for their second successive draw in the Champions League. Overall, it’s now just one win in six for Klopp’s men, who still sit 5th and level on points with Tottenham Hotspur after six Premier League games, winning 3-2 in their last league game away to Leicester City. Keeping just two clean sheets in their opening eleven games in all competitions, the team consistently leave themselves relying on their attacking talent to get them out of trouble, with defensive mistakes a common presence. However, having Philippe Coutinho looking back to his very best is a huge bonus to Klopp, with the Brazilian scoring twice in his last two games for the Reds.

Liverpool Team News

Nathaniel Clyne (back) and Adam Lallana (thigh) are still absent for Liverpool, as both continue to step up their recoveries.
