Newcastle United vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

The biggest game of the weekend in the Championship comes on Saturday afternoon (15:00) as top entertains seventh in a game with important implications for promotion. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

The last eight head-to-head meetings have ended in a victory for the home side including when these two did battle on the opening day of the season.  A Matt Smith goal was the difference between the sides on that occasion and this was the fourth successive game between the two that ended 1-0 to the home team.

After two straight victories over promotion rivals Newcastle had to settle for a point last time out when they drew 0-0 with Reading. The Magpies created more scoring chances but saw a lower percentage of the football.

Fulham rescued a crucial point at home to Leeds on Tuesday night thanks to a 90th minute Tom Cairney goal. It was the least they deserved in a game in which the London side were dominant.

Betting Tips and Predictions

I think Fulham could cause Newcastle a few problems here with their attacking talent and I would not be surprised if they got something from the game.  A more logical way to approach it though is to take Fulham to score over 1.5 goals which they look more than capable of doing.  They have the third best away ranked attack in the division and go up against a Newcastle defence that shipped two in recent home times to QPR and Bristol City.

It also makes sense then to take a Fulham player to score and the best value of the front four appears to be Neeskens Kebano who has three in six league games since returning from the African Cup of Nations.

Newcastle Preview

It is now 11 league games undefeated for Newcastle which includes seven points from their last three. They sit top of the table going into the weekend fixtures, three above Brighton and nine above Huddersfield (who have a game in hand).

At home, it is six with outfit defeat though they did drop points to QPR and Bristol City in recent weeks. Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday have both won at this ground this season.

The North-Eastern side tend to be involved in high scoring games on their own ground with 11 of 17 going over. They have just the eighth best home ranked defence in the division and have conceded two or more goals on four separate occasions.  Three of their last four matches have seen a goal netted in the last ten minutes.

Fulham Preview

4 points from the last available 18 means that Fulham have climbed the table and are in the promotion mix. They sit in seventh and just five points behind Sheffield Wednesday in sixth and with a game in hand.

This game marks the first of six they have on the road against sides in the top ten between now and the end of the season.  They have won just three of their last nine on the road in the Championship.

11 of their 16 matches away this season have gone under 2.5 goals and they rank just tenth for goals in their road games. Both teams to score would have paid in five of their last six. The Cottagers have scored the last goal of the game in each of their last six.
