Newcastle United vs Fulham Match Prediction

By Bharath Ramm R

Newcastle United were unable to pick up a first victory in four matches after beating Huddersfield 1-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium. Salomon Rondon came up with the only goal of the game in the second half with what turned out to be Newcastle’s best play of the match. Fulham’s poor run continued with the team losing 2-0 against West Ham at Craven Cottage. Fulham once again put in an inept defensive show and West Ham were able to get the opening goal after just 17 minutes through Robert Snodgrass. Michail Antonio was able to add a second just 12 minutes later after some horrendous defensive showing from Fulham.

Here we have our SBAT match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats.

Betting Tips and Predictions

Fulham may have picked up four runs in the last six matches against Newcastle but the Cottagers are low on confidence coming into this encounter. Newcastle have been slowly picking up points in the table and the club are now up to 14th. The St James’s Park has traditionally been a tough place for Fulham, who have lost three in four visits on this ground. Fulham’s troubles at the back make me go with a home win.

This match features two teams that have managed to score less than a goal per game so far this season. Newcastle have been able to live off the odd moments but they are likely to get more chances against Fulham’s lackadaisical defence. Even then, this match may not be a high-scoring entertainer. I would pick under 2.5 goals in the game.

Newcastle United Preview

Rafa Benitez is slowly getting Newcastle towards a decent position in the league table and the club’s second away win in three matches is an unexpected turnaround in fortunes for a club that were even unable to win at home earlier in the campaign. Still, Newcastle are not putting together a great structure going forward and they have relied on the odd moments in order to score goals. Benitez has to improve the team going forward while retaining the decent solidarity shown in the last few weeks. The January transfer window also provides an opportunity for the Magpies to add some strength in the offensive area of the pitch.

Newcastle United Team News

Federico Fernandez (calf), Jonjo Shelvey (thigh), and Karl Darlow (elbow) are missing from action for Newcastle.

Fulham Preview

Fulham players continue to make hugely inept defensive mistakes that are unlikely to go down well for Claudio Ranieri, who has failed to make a major improvement since coming as the replacement for Slavisa Jokanovic. Even though Fulham’s defensive record has improved in the last few weeks, they are still prone to heavy defeats if they continue making the defensive mistakes displayed against West Ham. Fulham to push too many players forward and they have not been clinical to take the chances. Ranieri can have reasons to be disappointed with his team’s play in transition.

Fulham Team News

Kevin McDonald (hamstring) and Ryan Sessegnon (groin) are unavailable due to injuries.
