Newcastle United vs Burton Albion Match Prediction

By Gary Gillles

This Wednesday evening (19:45) game will have an impact on both the top and bottom ends of the Championship. Here we have our match preview with all the best predictions, betting tips and match stats. When these sides met in the reverse fixture back in December it was the first ever league meeting between the duo. Newcastle came out on top 2-1 that day thanks to a goal each from Dwight Gayle and Mo Diame with Lloyd Dyer getting the only goal for Burton. After three without a win the Magpies got back to winning ways last time out by defeating Wigan 2-1 on Saturday. Dwight Gayle and Matt Ritchie got their goals that day in a game they were made to work for all three points. Burton made it two wins from their last three when they went to high-flying Huddersfield and secured all three points thanks to a goal deep in injury time from Jackson Irvine.

Betting Tips and Predictions

As good a home team as Newcastle I think at these prices Burton look worth a play on the Asian Handicap with a 1.0 start. This means that should they win or draw you get your money and your stake is refunded if they lose by just one goal. In recent away games Albion have won at Huddersfield and claimed draws at Sheffield Wednesday and Derby. The Magpies have won just two of their last 13 by more than one goal. The next bet is a huge price play in the goalscorer markets where I really like the look of Burton defender Tom Flanagan. I should confess he has not scored since the 2012/13 season but he did register three shots in the last game as he was used in a more advanced attacking wing-back role.

Burton + 1.0 on Asian Handicap

Newcastle Preview

Victory last time out and defeat for Huddersfield means that Newcastle look good things for going up now as the gap between them and third is ten points (though Huddersfield have a game in hand). The battle is on between them and Brighton for the title with just one point between them and equal amounts of games played. It is just one win from their last three home matches for the Magpies though it is just one defeat from eight at home. Matt Ritchie enjoys playing in front of his own fans with five goals from his last eight at St James’ Park. Five of their last eight have gone over 2.5 goals while at home it is each of the last three. Six of their last nine has seen both teams find the back of the net. Not since Boxing Day has it been goalless at half-time in a Newcastle home fixture.

Burton Preview

Just one defeat from their last eight games has given Burton a real boost at the right time though the fact that four of these have been drawn means they have not climbed the table as much hoped. They sit 19th going into the midweek round of fixtures four points above Blackburn in 22nd. Albion are unbeaten in their last four on the road and have lost just one of their last six away. Goals are becoming easier to come by as well with Jackson Irvine having bagged in the last two away games while Marvin Sordell and Cauley Woodrow have two in their last three at all grounds. The Brewers are a good bet for unders backers as six of their last seven have gone under 2.5 goals and four of these have gone under 1.5. On the road, their last four fixtures have produced a low total of just three goals. Three of their last five has seen a goal netted in the first 30 minutes.
